OK.. So two weeks ago I started a new strength training plan cause I find that just cardio isn't doing enough for me. I'm getting back in shape, but the weight wasn't coming off. In six months I had dropped 2 dress sizes and not lost a pound. So I'm gonna add strength training to my work out to see if I can increase my BMR ( Read more... )

Hey, glad to hear about the exercise routine! Your situation is not unlike other friends of mine who have gotten into weight training. Do not expect an extreme weight loss, especially not at first. Muscle weighs more than fat, and as you build muscle you'll start looking hotter and feeling better, but you won't lose much weight. It's a sign that you are developing real muscle.

Your body is getting healthier, however, and you will be reducing your blood pressure without dropping the weight. After a while, however, my friends found that as their bodies get used to working out and begins to adjust, they start burning off more of the stubborn fat and more weight loss comes.

While weight-loss diets can cut the weight faster, you will put it right back on after you stop dieting, and diets do nowhere near as much to improve your health as weight training does.

A few pointers. Weight training is for an increase of muscle mass. Therefore, if you are expecting to see a difference on the scale, you are probably not going to see it. If you are finding that you are not losing the weight you would like, my suggestion is to see a personal trainer. Yes, they cost money but they are very effective in telling you how to lose weight for the place you want to lose it from. Also, possibly invest in a body analysis. They'll figure out your fat%, muscle%, how much water you're retaining and all that good stuff. This will help you more in terms of setting goals ( ... )
