Tattoos

So, let me begin by saying that I don't have a tattoo, I am not planning on getting a tattoo, and see no situation where I ever would get a tattoo. However, a friend of mine asked on facebook about designs people would use for tattoos and included the word anthropology, so I thought about it and answered for he and answered. My tattoo was chosen not because I think that I will still find its design "cool in 20-30 etc years" but because it represents a time in my life that was fleeting and that I wanted to remember and not just remember what I did but remember who I was and how I thought about the world. After waiting the requisite 6 months (you don't have to wait, but tattoos are addictive and if you don't enforce taking breaks, you will end up with some stupid tattoos), until now, I have come up with many designs that are neat and that I like and all, and I keep thinking about how I want another one, but... nothing's really caught me. One of my ideas was Olga's design for a striking falcon too, I've seen it done by a few people and it's lovely.

I don't mean that I would still necessarily find the design cool in 20-30 years, but I want it to be a symbol for something that is a part of my life and has meaning to my life in 20 to 30. I have never had something that has stuck with me for that long. Even things that I would have gotten 4-5 years ago I no longer view as being an important enough part of my life to warrant a tattoo. This is why I would be somewhat hesitant to get the striking falcon. I might not be in the SCA or calontir (and hopefully if I am not in calontir I will have found a place that I like enough to replace calontir). I am ok with it, however, because I know that it also would represent all of the awesome people I have met in calontir ( ... )

Ok, I lost my train of though between class and now, but I will say one more thing: if I ever lived overseas for an extended period of time I could see myself getting a tattoo to symbolize my being American, which would probably be the Eagle off of the reverse of the old quarters.
