Hey, LJ staff, no word on you lot introducing a new ~driving revenue~ script that redirects people's links through outboundlink.net AGAIN? I would like an explanation and why does it affect EVERY LINK EVER on EVERY LJ PAGE EVER on only HOVERING the damn link? I'm confused, and it scared the hell out of me as I had no idea what were all those scripts loaded on my flist, I thought someone had spammed a community.

I've already blocked it obvs. PEOPLE, GET FIREFOX AND ADBLOCK AND NOSCRIPT, THEN GO AROUND BLOCKING EVERY NON-USEFUL LJ SCRIPT. There you go, done my bit!

Yup: http://l-stat.livejournal.com/js/pagestats/DR_v4u.js

Whenever you hover ANY link ANYWHERE on LJ, it loads another script that basically says your link is going through outboundlink.net before reaching the final destination. I think anyway.

Have you experienced it then as well? I guess it's their way of saying "hey, now we're showing you how this script works" but it still is fishy as hell, especially as they're keeping schtum about it, and I DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL.

Well, I only noticed the new script because I went poking through Adblock as I sometimes do, and found out the new url and the outboundlink things, which now that I think about it, NoScript was probably blocking them.

Anyway yeah, what you said. FAIL.

Well, they said they would, so it's not all that surprising.

No, wait! It's going through outboundlink.me not .net, so says NoScript and its recently blocked sites list.

I had a quick investigate, and it only seems to be called if NoScript also permits JS from ShareThis. So maybe it's related to that?

Nope, I've had ShareThis blocked from day one (with both adblock and noscript) as I didn't even unblock it.

Look, this is what happened: I was looking through my Adblock "open blockable items" window, and there were various scripts from outboundlink.me "redirecting" every link displayed on my friends page I had hovered with my mouse so far. I hadn't even clicked on them. These scripts were not active I suppose, because NoScript was blocking them, I've found out through its recently blocked sites list, but Adblock was displaying them because THEY WERE THERE. I've since blocked the DR_v4u script and that stopped happening, so I found the offender.

I'd like an official explanation!

I'd like to see an official explanation as well.

Hi again! I just tried on another computer while logged off and same thing happens; I hover over a link, any link indeed, and a random script off outboundlink.me/axxo is called to redirect that link (or whatever, I don't know what it does). I didn't allow the script to run so I dunno what happens when it's active, I JUST WANT SOMEONE TO SAY WHAT IT MEANSSSSS. And to take the damn thing off the page.

I'd like to know what it means, too! :) I see that you've opened a Support request, hopefully that will shed some light.
