We've got some exciting updates this week, so sit tight and we'll get started. Of course, news would not be complete without a special gift from Frank. It appears that he neglected to celebrate birthdays this month. So, in the spirit of better late than never, please rip a zippy yippee if you were born in August, and Frank'll send you a ginger ( Read more... )

i'm just going to repost and add to a comment i made to another user in the interest of spreading education and minimizing some of the flames aimed at the LJ Staff. while their implementation techniques and finesse leave a lot to be desired and our dissatisfaction with it is certainly justified, i doubt they were the ones who felt these new features were really necessary. i suspect they don't call the shots anymore, as expounded upon below ( ... )

exactly. the (ridiculous) notion that the dissatisfaction we're all expressing here could actually do us more harm than good alarms me, thus the urge to share with everyone.

i would hope constructive criticism would get us somewhere, but tbqh, i'm not sure a less vehement response would have actually gotten the message across to the staff, as stressful as it must be for them.

I'm getting this mental image of SUP as something like an evil step-parent, lmfao

LOL, so am i; are we really to be the thousands of cinderellas banished to the hearth and uninvited to the ball? ;-; sad.

as for whether or not we get ignored, i'm trying to be patient, but it's getting harder as more and more time of silence goes by.

jesus christ my captchas are not even legible words in any language anymore.

" . . . threatening to destroy our business,"

o_O

He does realize that we were here first, and we're upset because we LOVE LJ and don't want it ruined. We don't want to leave. And he's the one screwing it up. WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

Retaliate rather than bow to pressure? What on earth sort of business approach is that? O.o Maybe they don't realise this, but LJ isn't a prison; we're all free to leave whenever we want. With our money.

I've never blamed the staff - unless LJ is a company unlike any other, I doubt they have any actual say in much of anything. And I've worked in customer service, having to defend policies I hated to customers I thought were totally right, and yeah, that sucks.

But, ugh, that info sounds pretty terrible, and if true, that attitude makes no sense at all. (Though I'd like to mention that there aren't just Russian and US users on LJ, but I get what you're saying. ;P) Fingers crossed we are proven wrong. :/

Have you checked out Dreamwidth? I feel that it's more like what LJ used to be, except they're doing cooler things with the technology too. If you haven't encountered it and would like to check it out, I can provide an invite code. (They're just about free like candy - it is easy to move over there - it's just hard to create massive numbers of spam accounts, thanks to the codes.)

LJ had codes at the beginning, too. Just sayin'.

Yep! And brought them back a bit later, too. But they were using them differently, at least the second time, to limit the load on the servers. I was mostly commenting on how easy it is to get the codes because I know some long-time LJ'ers will be concerned by the use of "invite codes" even tho the system for giving and using them is different and much more open.

DW will even create "promo codes" for communities/groups wanting to move over, that can be used by multiple people.
