Don't you think it would be better to arrange matters so that LJ can't interact with Facebook or Twitter? Do we want those sorts of people here?

I do. I'd love it if I could draw all my Facebook friends over to LJ and get them to leave Facebook.

But they are such different places. Just get them to join LJ because it's *so* much better than FB and *isn't* FB!

Baby steps...
"Hey guys, you can sign up for LiveJournal with your Facebook account, it's easy."

"Hi everybody, if you want to want to write your own journal entries you can convert your account, plus you can continue to login with Facebook Connect."

"Oh yeah, LJ is totally better for writing and much better at privacy. Plus, the communities here are so much easier to use and read than groups over at Facebook."

etc... Letting them login here makes it easier to convince them to join up fully.

amgz first page!

I'll miss TxtLJ. It was nifty whenever I was internetless, so I guess I'll just have to remember how to use the email thingy.

If you set up your phone's email address as an approved sender on the Post By Email page (for me on Verizon, it's [PHONENUMBER]@vtext.com), and the post-by-email address as a contact in your phone, it's super easy to still post by text. I do it all the time from my non-smart phone.

Is it just the number or 1 + area code as well?

Since my service is also through Verizon and I, too, do not have a smart phone, I need to try and get this set up in place of TXTLJ. =/
And thanks for pointing this out. =D

mine is just the area code+number. doesn't look like there's a 1.

No, seriously, I'm positively giddy about this entry consisting only of relevant information!

Can't you just lose the pictures and the other non-newsy stuff and post only news-worthy things every week?
Just put them in comms of their own and leave this one for the srz bzns!

Please?

I am ok with the LJtxt feature being removed.. but it wouldve been nice to know about it earlier so I didnt spend so much time two weeks ago wondering why it kept giving me an error... So thanks for the notice there. :(

I will say I will kinda miss it. Although I seldom used it, I liked that I could use my unlimited texting feature on my phone plan to send something to my journal if something happened and I couldnt get to a computer. You should take note that not everyone has a smartphone, internet on their phone, or a data plan to send emails.

Most mobile services let you send text messages to an e-mail address, which to LJ would look like a regular e-mail.

If you've opted into Cyrillic services, you'll still be able to cross-post protected and screened comments.

Does that mean if someone's opted into Cyrillic services they can crosspost comments from other people's locked entries, or only from their own entries?

Yes, I want to know the answer to this. Because otherwise this means that someone with malicious intent could opt into Cyrillic services just to crosspost/do damage, and f-lock is there for a reason.

danceinacircle September 21 2010, 18:29:41 UTC
Someone wanting to do damage could much more easily just copy and paste your entry onto Facebook. It comes down to trusting or not trusting your friends.

I know that every time I post an f-locked entry, I have to trust the users on my flist to respect it. I've been aware of this for years.

That doesn't mean that I have to accept that a business I've given money to and supported over the last few years is now making a half-assed attempt to correct something that never should have been possible in the first place. LJ has never directly enabled crossposting of content from locked entries before, and it never should have been enabled in the first place. Yes, users will always have a way to crosspost, but LJ incorporating that fact into their very own code isn't something that I find acceptable. Their actions are completely separate from the decisions of my friends and readers.
