Next Steps

Hello again.

I want to update you on the status of correcting the issues that occurred earlier this week:

First, all journals and communities that were suspended that did not clearly violate community policies have been restored. Over the weekend and into the next couple of weeks we will be doing the following:

  1. We will contact each user whose journal ( Read more... )

I did exactly the same test on my journal (though my default test word was "kittens"). Same results. The minute I added a space anywhere in the acronym, though, the post wen through. I'm posting from the US, btw. I have no love for the movement, but censoring the the name is still NOT OKAY.

*nods* I'm also in England. I did exactly the same thing as you, with the same results.

My LJ doesn't seem to have been affected at all by the recent DDOS. Well, it was minorly bitchy for a couple of days early last week, but it's been fine ever since, so I can't see any reason for that to happen.

It's a very worrying thought. Like you, these people aren't anything I'd support, but we SHOULD be able to discuss them if we feel so inclined.

Tried it, entries and comments, even tried to edit an entry adding the words, nothing working.

Posting from Switzerland.

Everything else works fine for me though, I don't seem to be affected by the DDoS or whatever else make the side slow and non-responsive for others.

I'm not sure how long have this been. Maybe for a couple of weeks, maybe even a month. I think everything started with the suspension of one the political community which ru_n_b_p is (the name of which you can't write also here). then it was restored. then some things like suspension of different users started (certainly not for porn!) going on, and actually there were no explanations given, as i recall. by the way, everyone who was suspended is connected with the "Other Russia" movement, i don't know if many of the people in the west know about this coalition (N_B_P party is a part of it). one of the days (maybe a week ago) russian part of the LJ was cut from the server for several hours. later it was explained that attacks on the n_b_p community influenced the whole LJ and they had to cut the russian segment... I hope that someone will add something or correct me if i messed up smth.

I tried it as well and get an error message when I try to post those letters - everything else has been working perfectly for me all along, it's just those letters I can't post. And I'm in Norway, so nope, definitely not just a Russian thing.

same here, though I didn't even get the courtesy of an error message.

I Googled it.

There's a d-p-n-i livejournal community, but damned if I can access it.

Wow.

The fact that I can not type the 4 letters d.p.n.i (this is also a handy test to see if the dots work) is most definitely NOT to do with the posting problems. If I try to enter a comment or look at the interest with those 4 letters, I don't get an error message. The browser just spins its wheels until it times out a couple minutes later. I replaced the 4 apparently evil letters with dp_ni and BLAMMO it posted in a couple seconds. I've tried multiple tests with identical results.

I'm not ready to scream 'conspiracy theory', but it does seem really really suspicious that those 4 letters are blocked. I'm in New York State (Eastern USA). It's not like those 4 letters have any special meaning here. I ask LJ/SA to come forward and answer as to they those 4 letters cannot be typed. I'm not expecting an answer as that would imply that LJ cares about their users anymore.

This is treading on my rights! I may never use those letters in that sequence unless I drastically misspell "independence," but I still want the option!

. . . wooo, prolonged internets advocacy isn't good for me.

Indeed. Those are 4 letters in a sequence I cannot recall ever having a need to type. Of course I now see a need to find an excuse to need to type them just so I have a reason to raise hell. :)

It's not "banned", but it is blocked from LJ, at least temporarily -- part of deterring the DDOS we were experiencing included blocking content with that text, because we were getting hit so hard with that exact text that it was killing the site. I don't expect that it'll stay that way for long, but at least short-term, it's the only way we can keep LJ running. :-/

What about all the other anti-government organization names and respective communities AND the ru\politics community?

burr86 June 4 2007, 00:51:46 UTC
Same thing.

Fair enough.
Last question - why did this coincide with the suspension of the ru\nbp community? While I do believe communities like this should not exist, it had always gotten away with the nationalistic and racist crap its members love so much. So why suspend it now?
