Next Steps

Hello again.

I want to update you on the status of correcting the issues that occurred earlier this week:

First, all journals and communities that were suspended that did not clearly violate community policies have been restored. Over the weekend and into the next couple of weeks we will be doing the following:

  1. We will contact each user whose journal ( Read more... )

Were? Sorry, but it's not fixed.

Sorry, I meant "were" as in, "started to" -- believe me, I know it's far from over, but I was in the mindset of "at the time it started, this is what we did". Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you for replying I honestly didn't think you would.

I can't even begin to imagine the frustration you guys are dealing with and you didn't need me being snarky.

Unfortunately, that won't quite work -- the problem is happening before we even get to the LJ servers (it's hitting our network, which means that *all* our servers would be affected). And even if we split off into a separate network for paid users, there's nothing to stop that network from being affected. :-/ I know it sucks quite a great deal, and I promise we'll be looking into things again first thing tomorrow, to see what we can do to fix the problems you've been running into.

As an alternative -- maybe try setting up email posting (see http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=187&view=full) so that you can email long entries to your journal instead? I know it's not the best option, but it's an alternative you might want to consider at least in the meantime. :-/

It actually is very random, unfortunately -- I'm not affected by it when I was at home, but as I was using the Internet before one of my flights the other weekend, I *was* affected. So it seems related to network connections and such, rather than account status.

Unfortunately, there isn't any way we can say "this is when it will be fixed" -- we're weathering out a storm right now, and we'll continue to run into some problems until it's passed. We've gotten a lot of very helpful information over this weekend, though, so we're going to be pulling it together and forwarding it on to our network engineers to see if we can make some changes to fix the problem. We did make an announcement in lj_maintenance about this, and I wish there was more I could offer, but please believe that dealing with these issues are my top priority. I know it's frustrating and I know that it sucks a whole lot, and I'm doing everything I can to help deal with the issues. :-/

Good luck to you and everybody else working on LJ's current problems.

What a fun time to be working for Six Apart, eh?

Arrgh, I deleted my comment.

Russian dissident outrage > American fangirl outrage, IMHO. But, wow, what a bizarre week, eh?

I would have preferred an explanation and a temporary suspension of service.

Tried same things from Australia, with the same result.

It is hard to believe that my freedom of speech here is affected by current Russian politics, but it is so.

The explanation from livejournal team is so lame. For the fear of reprisal they are blocking our posts? But wouldn't KGB want the same?

Not to be completely off topic, but technically speaking we have no rights to free speech in Australia.

Plus LJ is private so even if you have freedom of speech here in America, Lj can block what you say, because they aren't the government. We just have freedom of speech with the government (theoretically).
