Each clinical group has a two hour time set aside to talk after our clinical day ends each week. My group meets at a Starbucks halfway between our sites. Wooh! Passed my Civil Rights test. That was the final hurdle to getting my teaching certificate back on active status. Now I just have to pay the late fee to the state and I'll be good to go. Somehow I managed to pass both of my standardized tests in the middle school content areas. I felt strong in the math and sciences, but so-so for language arts and abysmal for social studies. Today was a good day, though I still didn't get to really do anything. One student got to see 3 vaginal births, and another got to see four. A third student got to see the mother she worked with last night finally give birth. Me? I held pacifiers and gave sucrose solution to a couple of babies who got blood drawn from veins in their hand. Tonight was my first night at Momma/Baby clinical. One student in my group got to see a vaginal delivery and a cesarean section. I was on a postpartum unit. My preceptor asked the patients if they minded if a male nursing student was in the room when they breastfed/changed their pad/did anything with clothes off. Two out of the three objected. Back from holiday and right into the swing of things. Yesterday was my first day back. I took a 4 hour standardized test in an effort to keep my teaching license. The tests were on content from middle grades Social Studies, Science, Math, Health, PE, Language Arts and Reading instruction.
