I swear there are phone calls and 20 minutes on hold every time I set up cable/internet at a new place. Guess it's not a local phenomenon.

When I first moved into my house, I was caught in an unbelievable cycle of stay home from work/let in phone company/still not getting DSL. This must have happened five or six times over a period of months before I finally got the service--and only because I knew someone who knew someone who worked for Pacific Bell. It was like something out of Kafka.
