Start answering his cell phone for him. "Hello, Andy's phone! Here, let me give you an alternate number to call during business hours." Ooo... or "accidentally" turn it off for him anytime he walks away from his desk.

I've asked him to turn it off many times, and he just "keeps forgetting" just like "everything else with his phone" ... GRRRR

I have a plan that will require some time and money to implement. First, steal hsi phone and turn the ringer off.

Around his office, hide speakers that are connected to something you can control remotely, and have the ringing (the same ringing as his phone) go off periodically. he won't be able to find all of the speakers in one go, and it'll be even funnier if you can stop the ringing when he gets too close.

Let that be the state of affairs for at least a day, maybe 2.

THen beat him over the head.

Hahahaha....that would be sweet....

Unfortunately, he's not in the office a lot, and other people are...

The buety of that plan is that a) you have lots of time to set it up, and 2) you can only hit the ringer switch when he's there.

Or steal his phone, make the ringtone "HEY DOUCHEBAG YOU HAVE A PHONE CALL."

Its unprofessional of anyone to have their phone on 'ring' at work these days and people need to learn to respect that. You are right and he is wrong. Too bad you can't just post his number here or on FB and ask people to call him randomly or at odd hours.

As for his laptop noise... does he leave it unlocked so you can do things to it when he's not there or is it just on and loud and annoying. Most laptops have this great thing called a 'power' button, perhaps you've heard of it? Hold down that button and keep holding it for 10-20 seconds and it will power off. If that doesn't work to make the noises stop, either pull out the power cord and make the batter die or pull the battery.

Another harmless but annoying trick, ctrl+alt+up arrow will flip the display

and yes, if he leaves the damn cell on and out, you CAN answer it, you don't even have to say anything just press the button to make the noise stop and walk away or you could be creative and say 'Pizza Hut'...

That's what he doesn't understand...and I don't know how to HELP him understand...maybe have my phone ring a lot when he's around? And just not answer it? (Unfortunately, history has shown that passive-aggressive actions only make him more angry and less likely to change his mind/behavior/opinion)

His laptop is a Mac (I don't know if that changes any keystrokes), and he does leave it unlocked.

I think part of the problem is he doesn't realize that when I go in to the lab and tell him his phone was ringing, it's not because I want to let him know he had a call, it's to get him to turn the fekkin ringer off! Maybe I need to be more clear about that.....

I hate how high-and-mighty he is...his complete lack of ability to consider other peoples' opinions as valid...

The flipside is maybe he does understand just how annoying that is. If he has different ringtones assigned to different people, is using it to screen calls.

I had a coworker where the relatives would first call the work number and when there was no response, they would then call the cell number (which was in her purse at her desk next to the office phone). When no response again, they would repeat the cycle a second time. The only saving grace was that the cell ring tone was kinda funny so it took away some of the annoyance factor.

For a long time he didn't even know HOW to put the phone on silent, so I doubt he has different ringtones...lol

1. If you haven't yet what you have written here would be a good note to leave him.

2. When he leaves the office, the first time his g**dmn cell phone rings, go over and turn it off. If he gets mad about it throw another copy of your note in his face, if he doesn't get the hint he deserves to have his personal space invaded for your sanity.

3. Same thing with him computer. He should eventually get sick of coming back to a muted computer and having to futz with it.
