I'm in. Passed the audition and the theory test, school starts in September. First at the local community college, then transfering to a more reputable university after two years (up here in Canadistan college and university are two different things). Now I catch up on sleep that I missed due to entirely too much practicing. I've set my alarm clock ( Read more... )

Not that awesome... as my pseudo-dad put it, it was lucky I had skin on my teeth. Barely made it, and they recommended i think seriously of taking their year-long basic musicianship course. I didn't really argue, but explained my reasoning on wanting to just go for it (time).

I didn't bother telling them that I've only been playing the oboe seriously for like... four months or so. And that I hadn't studied for the theory test aside from reviewing the names of the notes in a scale (like tonic, dominant, mediant, all that crap).

Certainly not ready to teach oboe, and no credentials for clarinet (or really lots in the way of skill, either). I'm an amateur musician right now. I get paid sometimes, but I hardly deserve it based on musical skill. Entertainment is a different thing altogether though; I can be very entertaining, but my musical skill is only a small part of that.

It's study, and lots of it. Definitely a long road ahead to get to where I want to be. And crushing debt by the end of it, no doubt. But crushing debt and a secure source of funds and an ability to live on very little income.
