Yesterday  we drove past some roadworks.

Dan: "Daddy, why are those men digging up the road?"
Jez: "I don't know, why do you think they are?"
Dan: "Maybe they're pirates looking for treasure!"

Today he read THREE books. Real ones.

Admittedly, the books were first readers, not the works of Shakespeare.  Here is the text of one, for your further enlightenment:

Rat met Cat,

I'm sitting on my mum's computer, listening to Dan making jigsaws happily, waiting for mum and Jez to emerge from their beds so I can kiss the boy farewell and head off to Southsea.  Leaving my little guy with my parents is going to be either great fun or hugely traumatic for him. "Dan! Breakfast time. Come on."

"Lightning McQueen wants his breakfast too, Mummy. He wants petrol sandwiches. He wants petrol sandwiches for breakfast AND lunch."

"Oh really? So what does he have for dinner?"

"Petrol sandwiches. He ALWAYS likes petrol sandwiches. And he's having oil for pudding."

So, I've joined the PTA at Dan's school, and last night we had a Beetle Drive at school as a fun/fundraising night. I haven't been to a beetle drive since *I * was at primary school. I'm constantly amazed by Dan's deductive reasoning.  At breakfast, he pointed out that the Honey Monster doesn't have any teeth. "But how can he chew his honey monster waffles with no teeth, Mummy?"  I couldn't answer this important question, but my son could!
