what was golden went grey and I'm suddenly shy

Yesterday at work, motivated by girldetective's recommendation, I picked up Kazuo Ishiguro's newest novel Never Let Me Go and, umm, didn't let it go until my shift was over (sorry! couldn't resist). In fact I stayed ten minutes longer than I needed to because I didn't want to quit reading. Please check it out, you will NOT be disappointed. It's a woman's ( Read more... )

I didn't, I stopped at the warning! & I'm glad I did ... I usually can't bear to wait for surprises, so I get people to tell me. many movies have been ruined as a result! (well, not ruined, but you know, made unsurprising.)

that's right, don't walk, RUN.

Eeee!

I love Ishiguro and you have just given me a reason to pick this up on my lunch break.

(This sort of thing is why I am not closer to moving out of my house.)

this is the first book of his that I've read. I'm definitely going to have go through his, uhh, oeuvre (ha! can't believe I used that word but there you go). what would you recommend? I actually have a copy of When We Were Orphans at my parents' house, so perhaps I'll start with that ... but if there's something you think I should read beforehand, let me know.

heh, that's the only one I haven't read. Funny coincidence, that. I really, really liked Remains of the Day, and I liked A Pale View of Hills a lot too.

After June. :)

I always used to be the girl who HAD NOTHING LEFT TO READ after she finished the last two pages, and NEEDED ANOTHER BOOK and WANTED RECOMMENDATIONS and PLEASE LEND ME SOMETHING? But now I'm the girl with the ever-expanding To-Read stack. This is such a bizarre result of doing an English degree!

Yay! It's rare that a book comes along and sweeps ALL OF US off our feet like that. Danielle read it in one sitting, Nikole was rendered speechless at work yesterday and Ben thinks it'll win the Booker this year. Joy has it now, and Matt is waiting, mainly to be contrary. But he isn't reading the reviews, which is a good sign.

everyone's reading it? that's awesome. I'm going to have to convince my coworkers here to as well. we don't want to be left in the dust by TO. Ben is always good about predicting the prizes isn't he ... which reminds me, I have a Yann Martel story to tell you (not on the Internet. too embarrassing!)
