One can easily agree on the fact that our modern western culture doesn't endorse a genuine opening of our senses to subtle energies. It can also be said that our modern western culture doesn't even foster a genuine and full opening of our ordinary perceptions thru our physical senses, for that matter ( Read more... )

Maybe transactional approach is also a factor, deeper and older than the madness of rush, rush, rush... "a gift demands a gift" and all... does a true gift demand or expect anything? Exchanging breath with plants is neither gifting nor transaction... it's who we are. I tend to feel that our relationship with that domain conventionally called "transcendent" is more like the animal/plant relationship than like brokerage. I tend to think that the west could find a way to move from pure materialism to immanant spirituality, but the present part of that journey often looks a lot like what Chogyam Trungpa called "spiritual materialism ( ... )

I can really hear you on exchanging breath being neither gifting nor transaction, but just who we are. That's perhaps the key, and the place to go back to: who weactually are.
And, sure enough, at this point contemplation, slownwss and beauty are paramount...
