As wierd as it may sound coming from me...

I want to become a philanthropist. I currently have 30ish marines and sailors that I'm in charge of and I feel really good whenever I can help and guide them. I've always wanted to help people, especially those around me with whom I am close to. But knowing I impact the lives of so many in a positive way is amazing. This line of thinking has passed me recently as well. I'm thinking on a larger scale though, thinking about a path leading to running for Congress or maybe Governor. From what I've gathered, the way to get anywhere in politics is to start small and build trust. As you suggested, the board of freeholders is a great place to start. Often, freeholders and County Clerk (and maybe others, I forget) tend to run as a ticket (even though they are not bound by the others). Perhaps we need to talk about running for something together.

Yes, that sounds really good, but I'm not going to be too credible aside from being prior military until I get a degree in something. But I think we could definately make it work.

I'll see if it's typical run as a 3 person ticket. Military Experience (for you) helps, I would imagine a degree in a hard science (from me) helps, so if we can add someone with maybe a political science/history/law degree, we would have all our based covered.

I could also be horribly wrong

As I look into it more, the board of freeholders are 5 people, and 2 get elected every 3 years (I still don't see how those numbers can work). Either way, they hold their meetings in Mt Holly on Wednesdays. It couldn't hurt, once you get back, to start attending a bit. It'll help give an idea of what they do and if this is going to be what we expect
