what a fun and busy weekend. saturday night we had a small group of friends over for game night. i made chili (which in my world of anglo-american cooking, is nice and mild :) ) and cornbread and others brought tons to go with it. stef and dorian made awesome enchiladas, which i had never had, and have now eaten twice because there are leftovers ( Read more... ) -
creature comforts
you tube is great. i always recall that when i was little and watching tgif that they would run a claymation clip that showed animals in a zoo talking about zoo life, pros and cons. la di da da. i loved that clip. every once in a while i ask somebody if they remember seeing those zoo clips nearly 20 years ago and people would always be like, um, no ( Read more... ) -
laura's first trip to a new mechanic
fred and i are both losers. neither one of us wanted to take the car to a new mechanic and deal with the warranty stuff so it was a matter of who was braver. i won. or lost. depending on how you look at it. but there are no problems yet because the guy at the repair shop was really nice, straight-forward and said that while they had never dealt ( Read more... ) -

my sewing machine had a conniption fit. i just sewed an over-the-shoulder purse by hand. yes, and now it's quarter past one in the morning. it wasn't a terrible lot of sewing but the fabric was doubled up for sturdiness and my index finger is in pain now, pushing through the fabric one stitch at a time. that is why thimbles are nice. but who ( Read more... )
