I feel bad for the poor manager in that dialogue. It's like demanding a refund for a cheeseburger after you ate it all. Sorry, it doesn't fly that way.
Besides, it's not like the manager has a say as to what is called what and what screens are where. Corporate just says, "Do this." And off the managers go like armies of minions. Venting your frustrations on a minion is pretty-narrow-minded.
He didn't ask for a complete refund, just a refund of the "IMAX" portion. He was shown a movie on a standard screen, he should have paid standard price.
For a multitude of reasons, I'm strongly thinking of never going to see a movie in a movie theater again. The value added just isn't there anymore. I can get a similar experience at my brother's with his monster sized flat screen TV & surround sound, without the expensive tickets, expensive snacks, ban on alcoholic beverages, noisy, rude people, ringing cellphones, etc.
In addition, I no longer consider most movies worth going to, now that the ticket price is in the vicinity of $10-15 each. I have better ways to spend my money and time.
