Apparently...

"There's no such thing as crossdressing if you're a girl. If you're a lesbian and dress as a guy, you're just dressing as a dyke, not 'crossdressing'. This androgenous look of yours seems an awful lot like... you in junior high. Also, I know you like the shock factor, but you should be careful about what you do in public. I've seen lots of bad ( Read more... )

My mother used to say stupid things like that. Sometimes she still lets them slip, and it always shocks me because she's this super-accepting presence in my life, but sometimes she just so DOESN'T GET IT. It's incomprehensible to me.

I prefer guy deodorant. It's what I use.

Incidentally, I don't shave (HOGASP, SILLY DYKE HERE!) so guy deodorant works better for me if I don't want to be smelly!

Sigh. Mothers can be so silly sometimes.

Yeah. My mom is super-accepting. But not so much super-comprehending. D8 She's... really stubborn, though, so if she /thinks/ she gets something, there's no telling her otherwise.

Guy deodorant just... smells better, to me. And works better. Girl deodorant I have to put on like every 2 hours for it to work how I want. XD

My mom will probably go back to being logical in a few weeks. But every time I change or evolve in any way, she loses her train of logic for a bit and has to recover. D;

Yeah, I totally get that. My Mum's like that too. If she thinks she understands something, even if it's from like decades ago and things have changed, then her opinion/grasp of it doesn't so much change. Just with lots of pulling from her equally stubborn daughter. I know her heart's in the right place though.

I don't like overwhelming guy deodorant, like Axe when it was in super style, but some of the more subtler stuff I like.

Yaaay logic.

Yeeep, that's what my mom's like. x3 And on top of that, she works in mental health, so the part of "society" she sees is the... severely mentally ill part, which is in no way an accurate sampling of "society as a whole." But she forgets that, and uses her clients as examples of the dangers of society all the time. I know what mentally ill people are like-- my best friend in junior high's OCD, AIDS-phobic mom forbade her to ever speak to me again after she found out we had been in a relationship for a short amount of time. But I also know I spent a year at a Catholic college in super-conservative Indiana last year, and not a single person so much as /teased/ me for being quite openly gay ( ... )

Aww, I know it's annoying but your mom has good intentions- she was just raised in a less accepting time. Sometimes parents just freak out and think of only the worst possible scenario. You're still her kid, after all.

Guy deodorant is freaking awesome. <3

I have just the opposite problem, actually- people think I'm crossdressing when, in fact, I just like wearing neckties. Weird how wone accessory makes the difference in perception between "formal" and "crossdressing". I mean, seriously, if I did crossdress, I wouldn't be such a fail drag king as to not try and hide my huge boobs.
