Depends on the size of the order, but I usually round up to the nearest dollar (usually 2 or 3 on an order for two people). But I always find the total before the food shows up and decide on the tip immediately and it's always going to be an amount rounded to a dollar.
The reason: there is a time-honored delivery driver trick to increase tips where the driver fumbles around looking for the last dollar or two hoping you will say, "Oh don't worry about it".
I either say "It's all yours" or "Give me back $5" or some nice round easy amount.
We've had some issues with places that look up our address from our phone number, mostly them getting the wrong address into their database and thus getting lost EVERY time until we could finally get them to fix it. Technology: Making mistakes at the speed of light!
1) How far away they are. Further away = more gas money 2) How quickly they get the food there. I have been known to knock a buck or two off if they take longer than promised (i.e. a 40 minute delivery turns into an hour+)
I generally do 10-15%. Having worked in a restaurant, I wouldn't consider delivery work the same caliber as dine-in service, so adjust accordingly.
No more than 45 degrees. If you tip them farther than that, they often fall over and that makes it difficult for them to complete their deliveries on time. Better to prop them against the door jamb. When you're quite finished it's kind to offer a small cash gift in proportion to the distance they've traveled and the nature of their service.
