[Backdated to the evening of Dec 24th, Christmas Eve]

So far, Sakura was having a very interesting holiday season. Firstly, her parents had nearly disowned her for not coming home, but it wasn't her fault that she had to study! She was starting her surgical rotation in January, and that wasn't going to be easy now, would it? She had to take ( Read more... )

Sasuke actually liked Christmas Eve. Even if only because he hated Christmas Day. The Eve implied that what was to come was not yet there, though it hung on the horizon just waiting to ride Midnight into existence. But it wasn't there yet, and that is what mattered ( ... )

It took nearly all of the willpower she possessed, but somehow Sakura managed to keep her jaw from hitting the floor and her eyes on Sasuke's face. She could, however, feel her cheeks flush with warmth, clearly betraying her thoughts. "Uh... " Oh God, oh God, I am retarded.

This wasn't. . . .

Yes. It was. A Christmas present. The very last thing he wanted from anyone.

Sasuke took hasty control over the package that was pressed into his hands. Well, hand, seeing as his other was still quite content to grip the edge of the door. A possessive blockade of flesh.

Fuck.

There was a proper response [one that didn't involve his acting as a human barrier between his side and their side of the world] to this situation, the very one he should have offered up at the start, and now it was tumbling out over his lips as he once more looked inside the too-dark, too-cold apartment that he was currently inhabiting.

". . . .you can come in."

Without waiting for her response, Sasuke slid back into the blackness of what should have been their living room.

Sakura took a tentative step forward, stumbling only slightly in the darkness. Cradling the remaining package in her arms, she tried her best to follow Sasuke using the last remaining daylight filtering in through the windows. "Is Naruto here?" she asked, trying to keep her voice light. It's not like she was fumbling around in blindness or anything. "I have something for him, too."

She shifted from one foot to the other awkwardly and thought it seemed fitting that Sasuke liked to sit around in the dark. It suited him.
