Chapter Eight

People are mysteriously dropping dead left and right, and, let me guess, there are still some of those people here who actually prefer this place to the idea going home.

This place - these people - it's terrifying and fascinating at the same time. Like a car crash, you know? You just can't look away...I should write a book about this. Murder ( Read more... )

discedo would be a bestseller, i have no idea what's going on, murder

Ah! I'm quite fond of murder mysteries. The current situations is a bit convoluted for a linear plot, but life often differs from fiction.

People wish to stay here? Hmm. It's a bit difficult for me to understand, but I loved my Tokyo. Some of these people were either dead, or hailed from a place that brightens this one by comparison. Others have bonded with people from other worlds and dimensions, people whom they may never see again, if we all return home.

Please remain safe if possible. Your metaphor resonates with me--we are in the eye of a storm.

Well, you have a point there. Most of the time, the masses don't want to read through anything too complicated. Which is actually a little annoying when you're a writer.

I didn't even particularly love the place where I lived, but I'd still pick it over this place. I'd rather not have my life threatened every other day, thank you very much. I don't see what bond could be worth that.

Mmm, well, I can't resist a well-placed metaphor. And thanks, that's what I'm trying to do. Try to stay safe yourself.

Ah, yes. People often prefer simplicity in their vicarious experiences. It helps them escape the complexity of life--however, some are just the opposite in their preferences. No doubt many people would find a novelized Discedo quite intriguing.

I would return to my Tokyo in a heartbeat.

[Even if the end is near..]

Nevertheless, I understand the desire of others to remain in this place, as opposed to returning. Danger may be found everywhere. Murder, dark magic, ghosts, these are familiar sights to some of Discedo's inhabitants.

I shall attempt to remain safe as well!

Right. Well-said, really. Though I'd rather not oversimplify my work just to get people to read it, but you do what you have to do to sell copies, I suppose....

That's what I'm hoping - that people would find a book about Discedo to be compelling. Original. And not, with any luck, second-rate science fiction. But you never know.

Familiar sights, maybe, but not things I have any strong desire to live with, myself.

Well, if you wrote a book about it, it would still be a mystery to readers? I mean, whenever you get back to your world.

Exactly. And that's why it would work so well. That's just what I intend to do if - when - I get back.

Although, since I already know how it ends, the work is already done for me. Which makes it a little too easy, really....

Heh. Would it be based on a true story then? Somehow that just makes it creepier.

You're right on both counts. And that just makes it endlessly better, I think. Everyone would want to read that.

Keigo? Well, I'm all right, which I guess is incredibly lucky considering what's been going on around here. How about you - are you at least, you know...hanging in there?

If you're going to write a book, remember to make me way past cool in it!

Thanks, I'll be sure to, uh, keep that in mind. I'll make a...note of it. Blue hedgehog = "way past cool." That one'll be, er, right at the top of my list for story ideas.
