It's like Coldplay only less pretentious. I love the Indie bands before they take on the "indie" social label. I always thought that was the point- to never sell out. There's no point being indie (which I'm pretty sure means independent) if you're going to find a market for your sound. "Indie scene"- what the bananas is that? It's... quite ( Read more... )

Yeah, I agree that the indie scene is quite pointless. On one hand you there are those indie bands who become record label sheep the moment they become mainstream. And then you have bands who become more and more delusional as they become more mainstream, promoting their indie-ness despite their obvious fame and fortune. I hate when artists try to put down the mainstream, as if they're above it all, when the reality is that their music is only a timbaland beat away from becoming a billboard single.

I like glen hansard; he's beyond that "indie" label. Judging from his interviews, he seems like a really humble and earnest guy. It's as if he's not so concerned with how he is labelled as much as he is with simply making music. That's how it should be.

Glen Hansard does seem more sincere. It looks like his band's been around for a long time (the Frames?) and since I just heard about them- I'm taking that as indication that they have not sold out and are just happy to be paid musicians- Did you catch Market Irglova's acceptance speech at the Oscars?

yeah, i saw her speech! that was pretty cool of them to bring her out again. i thought her speech was well done, but not amazing. it's probably just me; i'm too jaded to be convinced by speeches about hope and achieving dreams, lol.
