Douchey Moments in History -- Interlude

Nov 15, 2010 09:47

Welcome to another edition of Douchey Moments in History! I'm calling this edition an "Interlude", because these clips don't actually feature Noah acting like a douche (although, if you really need a douche fix, you can watch Holden being a douche to Lily). In fact, what these clips mainly feature is Luke having a hard time with his paralysis and ( Read more... )

Great post!

It wasn't about his own needs, it was about being told that Noah needed him.

This is such a vital aspect of Luke's character. He very rarely puts himself first, and as soon as he realizes someone else needs him, he will do whatever it takes to help them.

When you look at Noah's blindness, I think everyone can agree that it was understandable at first that he was upset and lashing out. But Noah later admitted to Luke that he actively wanted to punish him. And that, in a nutshell, is the key difference between Luke and Noah. Luke would never want to hurt someone he loves. He didn't push Noah away when he was paralyzed to punish or hurt Noah, or to blame him. He was just in a lot of pain. And he put it aside quite quickly and then accepted the help Noah offered.

Yeah, I honestly can't think of a situation where Luke would want to punish someone he loves. I think that's why he'll eventually make up with Damian, too, somewhere down the line in the Train? What Train? universe. :)

Luke is love, man. He's just love.

Totally. Luke is just kind and giving. He's not a saint and he's not perfect, but he would never *want* to hurt someone he cares about. Never.

THIS!
Luke has done a few questionable things, don't get me wrong, but I think that he is passionate about helping others, especially those he loves. I think that is a big part of my Noah-hate. Luke did EVERYTHING for him - helped with Ameera, went after Dr. Oliver, etc. and what did he get in return? Noah needing "space", Noah breaking up with him, shall I continue?

WWRD???

Say Angus showed up and shot Luke? Reid? I'm pretty sure he'd be in the hospital being a super-control freak about every aspect of Luke's care, and not somewhere feeling sorry for himself. Also, he'd probably be utterly instrumental in trying to get Angus put away FOREVER.

But how would Reid handle Luke when he was angry and didn't want to do his physical therapy anymore? I can imagine them getting into an argument about it, and then their sexual chemistry would spark, and they'd end up making out, and Reid would pull Luke out of his chair down to the ground, and.........

Yeah. I'm down with that.

Obviously after a tension-relieving orgasm, Luke would be a little more receptive to the idea of doing his physical therapy. :P

And then Luke would pretend to be recalcitrant before every session and Reid would pretend like he was all irritated about having to sexually intice Luke to go to his session and then they would both secretly giggle with glee about how clever they were and then Luke would be healed and they would have to find other sexually negotiable aspects of their life which won't be that difficult, really.

One more thing is, remember how Noah insisted that being blind had changed him but that when Luke was in the wheelchair "you were still you"?

I rolled my eyes every goddamn time Noah said that. I mean, really? Being blind changed Noah more than being paralyzed changed Luke? Please. They both got their soap opera miracle cure.

Noah was incapable of taking responsibility for his bad behavior. It was always "different" for him. There were endless excuses. Ugh.

It's interesting watching these Douchey Moments in Nuke history, because IMO, it just seems that Noah and Luke were NEVER right and/or "perfect" for each other from the very beginning ( ... )

As peggin points out in a comment above, there's really nothing very sexy or romantic about a couple who is set up with the issue of one of them finding the other lacking or at fault. It's okay if one of the couple thinks they, themselves, are lacking and not good enough, but when they clearly seem to think the person they are in love with isn't good enough? I don't get it.

In hindsight, IMO, it's like all of these moments were brushed aside, because the viewing audience who wanted Luke and Noah to work out, because we just wanted to see a fictional gay soap opera couple exist on American daytime television.

Oh, definitely! I would never have routed for an m/f couple if either of them was treating the other the was Noah always treated Luke. But I was willing to lower my standards because I wanted an m/m couple on my TV screen. But eventually Noah just got SO obnoxious that even having an m/m couple on my TV screen wasn't a good enough reason to ship a relationship that had become so emotionally abusive.

That's why I always found it sad that the "die-hard" Nuke fans, were ranting about wanting to see Doormat Luke back, after Noah's surgery. The ONLY way, IMO that Nuke could ever get back to "what they had" was if TPTB had Luke basically giving everything that he experienced and learned from being around Noah during the time of his accident, to the point of him being cured by Reid.

The show SCREWED Noah in having him acting that way, but in hindsight that was how he's always written to be. It wasn't something that just happened out of the blue.

Luke wasn't a "doormat" when he initially met Noah, but he became that way, when he was written as doing anything and everything, in order to make sure that Noah was happy with him (at whatever the cost).
