Douchey Moments in History

Welcome to another edition of Douchey Moments in History!

"I think I need a break."
To me, what Noah does here is just seriously fucked up. (I'm linking to a part a few minutes in to the clip here. Noah is actually obnoxious even before this, so I recommend watching the whole clip, but this part that I've linked to strikes me as the douchiest.) It ( Read more... )

Great post!

The kind of mixed behavior we see here, where Noah offers his love and affection with one hand before immediately snatching it away with the other, is exactly what makes his relationship with Luke so toxic.

Yep, yep, yep. And awww, Luke's little "You don't want to be with me anymore?" And Noah's response is to yell that HE NEEDS TO THINK AND HE CAN'T DO THAT WITH LUKE HERE. GOD, WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND, LUKE??

"I need a break from this."

OMG PLZ GO FUCK YOURSELF, NOAH. Luke deserves so, SO much better. Look, I get being upset and maybe needing a few days to chill alone and think, but sheesh. As usual, Noah's the one with all the control here.

It's not a "break up," so they're still committed to each other, but that "commitment" doesn't include silly little things like doing things together or spending time together or even talking to each otherLOOK, IT ALL MAKES SENSE TO NOAH, OKAY. It's like when Luke asked earlier this year what they were to each other, and Noah was all, We're friends! Uh, when the guy ( ... )

And awww, Luke's little "You don't want to be with me anymore?"

OMG, the way he says that just breaks my heart. There are some points in these scenes with his royal douchiness where Van was just trying too hard to compensate for the fact that he was acting opposite a block of wood, and he'd come across as just a tad too histrionic, but not here. He so totally nailed the delivery of that line, and I could just feel his heartbreak.

It's like when Luke asked earlier this year what they were to each other, and Noah was all, We're friends! Uh, when the guy you've been in a relationship with for two years says you're friends? He's already broken up with you -- he just didn't have the balls to tell you.No, see the problem is that "they" weren't broken up. Noah was broken up with Luke, but Luke was still obligated to consider himself committed to Noah, and to be there waiting whenever Noah decided he wanted to come back. Noah never really considered Luke his boyfriend, Luke was a fucking TOY, and anytime Noah felt like it, he could put ( ... )

Also, LORD, the overacting going on in that scene! Van was so, SO much better acting against Eric.

Hell to the yes. Those two were fricking *magic* together.

I can't even conceive of the degree of self absorption and complete disregard for the feelings of others it would take to make such a major, life altering decision, without any prior discussion with your alleged boyfriend, and to just assume as a given that he would wait for you for A FEW YEARS. Hell, if they had been together ten years and were married, that wouldn't be a reasonable thing to expect, but to expect it of someone you've been dating less than a year and hadn't even slept with yet, demonstrates a dazzling degree of douchiness.Right?? It's MIND-BOGGLING. Luke just wants to talk, and Noah's all, You're not changing my mind! Because it's all. about. him. "Um, don't tell me what I want." Oh, heaven forbid, Noah! SUCH A FUCKING DOUCHENOZZLE. Love how he says to Luke on the street that he's glad he saw him "one last time." But then he's acting like they're still going to be in a relationship while he's gone for "just a few years." HOLY MIXED MESSAGES, BATMAN. Are you breaking up with Luke or not ( ... )

Oh, don't be silly! Luke's not allowed to know the answer to that question! I mean, how could Noah possibly tell Luke he's breaking up with him? If he does that, and there's the slightest chance that he might decide ten years down the line that he wants Luke back again, well, then there's no guarantee that Luke would still be there waiting for him! No, no, no, he HAS to leave it open ended and unclear, that way he still has the right to act like the injured party if he goes away for, say, a three year tour of duty, doesn't even contact Luke during that time, and then comes home and discovers that Luke is dating someone else!

OMG, these clips make me so MAD!!!
Mad at Noah, because he's obviously such an idiotic, self absorbed douche! And mad at me, because I actually rooted for Nuke way back when WHAT THE HELL WAS I EVEN THINKING?!
Poor Luke...deserves so much better than being dragged around however Noah wants - I want to be with you, I want to break up, I need space, etc. It's like he's Noah's little toy, there to do what Noah pleases. :(

Seriously, it amazes me looking back that I ever wanted Nuke together. But it was a case of beggars not being choosers -- they were the only gay couple around at the time, so I handwaved a LOT. I wanted my ship to be together, so I just ignored a lot of stuff and wrote it off as bad writing. But now as we look back, Noah was quite consistently a douche! So that was just who he was.

I think, for myself, I never really wanted Luke to be with Noah as Noah was, I wanted the writers to FIX Noah and make him better. And they kept on giving us enough brief moments of relative happiness that I could tell myself that, THIS TIME Noah is going to stay nice and treat Luke well, but it never lasted very long. :(

Ha! I just posted almost the exact same thing a couple of comments ago! I said:

Noah never really considered Luke his boyfriend, Luke was a fucking TOY, and anytime Noah felt like it, he could put that toy away in the toy box, and play with any other toy he wanted, but that toy damned well better still be there the next time he decides he wants to take it out and play with it again.

I didn't want to see this because I hate when Luke is hurt and sad, and yup, I teared up. I always hated how Noah treated Luke when proposing this "break"--just upsets me so much. Luke is just trying to help!!!

This wasn't about Noah wanting time away from people in general, it was about him needing time away from LUKE. There is no definition of the word "love" I can imagine where, during the worst points in your life, the one person you claim to love most in the world is the one person you don't want anywhere near you.

And this is what happened again during the blindness storyline--it was another low moment in Noah's life and he still didn't want Luke around--say what??? And Noah seems so willing to accept other people in his life (that guy Tony, the army, Luke's folks, Maddie & Hunter & Allison--earlier this year) during these worst times except for Luke, and yes, that makes no sense at all ( ... )

Not forgetting Richard - because Richard being around was okay, whereas Luke being around was crowding and smothering him.
Although I feel bad for Richard too, giving Noah a ride and picking him up and then when Noah realized he didn't need him (or his car) anymore, see ya!

Oh my gosh, I forgot about Richard--but so true. Noah said he needed to be alone for a while but going out with Richard was apparently okay because, you know, he's not Luke.

Yes, yes, yes! Exactly! There is just no way I can look at Noah being able to laugh and have fun with everyone but Luke, to accept help from everyone but Luke, to be nice to everyone but Luke, and believe Noah has anything even remotely resembling love in his heart for Luke. I seriously fear for anyone any of the writers of the show is ever involved with if they think that's what love looks like, because it looks an awful lot like hatred and resentment to me.
