Welcome to another edition of Douchey Moments in History!
"I love you"
I know, I know... when it comes to douchey phrases, "I love you" wouldn't be one of the first to come to mind. And the fact is, Noah doesn't actually do any thing douchey in this clip. In fact, he's not even in the scene I've linked to, and the text message that gets Luke all

Or even, "Come with me to New York so "we" can afford a nice apartment instead of the rathole I'd be able to afford on my own as a student."
I'm starting to think Noah isn't so much an abuser as a conman. He wants Luke for his family but mostly, I think, for his money. Even though he'll only accept it on his terms.
And Noah hangs on to Mason, not caring that Mason has feelings that Noah doesn't reciprocate, because he needs Mason's LA connections. Mason is a douche but he's a douche with a crush, and Noah uses that against him to get what he needs to further his career.
And then there's Richard, who only seems to exist to be Noah's chauffeur, and is summarily dismissed once Noah can see again/doesn't need him anymore.
To quote Reid: I am seeing a definite pattern.

Holy crap! That is such a good point. The whole Mason thing always pissed me off on Luke's behalf but you're absolutely right that Noah's actions were douchey even towards Mason. Mason skeeved me out [and I wasn't even skeeved by Brian] so I never even looked at it from Mason's POV. Noah totally used Mason's feelings so that Noah could finish his senior project. I must have missed some eps because I didn't really get the whole senior project thing. I remember that Mason convinced Noah not to do Luke's script but all of a sudden Noah had a new script about a poor but noble young man and his selfish rich lover. But I don't remember who wrote the script. If Noah wrote the script, when did he become a writer? If he had time to write a script even as he was going to classes, couldn't Luke have written another script for Noah to do? One that didn't portray Luke as a woman?

So Noah and Mason collaborated on the second script.
Personally I think Mason was just trying to create an excuse to spend more time with Noah, which, ew. And I think the whole portrayal of Luke in Noah's movie is Mason encouraging Noah to put to paper the worst aspects of his relationship with Luke. Again, with the goal of driving Luke and Noah apart.
So Mason is skeevy and manipulative BUT he also genuinely dislikes Luke. Whereas Noah is just a flat out jerk for continuing to work with Mason because he knows what Mason's trying to do and Noah doesn't shut him down or tell him to stop, which is a) a douche move for Luke's sake (I would NEVER let anyone talk about my partner the way Mason talks about Luke) and b) a douche move for Mason's sake, because Noah doesn't really make it clear to him that he's not interested.
