i don't really know who avril lavigne is (singer who people don't seem to think much of in general) but maybe she was making a point about how wide the definition of feminism is? i don't know, i'm maybe giving her too much cred...
i am cringing as i say this, because i do know who avril lavigne is...but i think it is pretty obvious that she might've been trying to make a point about being unsure of what criteria one falls under to be considered a feminist. since the definition is obviously a complicated, wide open one. it's still just really funny that that was her response
Vague criteria or no vague criteria for feminism, you either consider yourself one or you don't. If you call yourself a feminist then you have a knowledge of the criteria, or at least have your own perception of what they are. If you don't call yourself a feminist, then either you don't understand basic themes in feminism, or you do get them and just don't subscribe to any, some, or all of them.
Thus, it is pretty self evident that this girl not only doesn't subscribe to feminist criteria, but doesn't even understand it. Otherwise her reply wouldn't be about her not knowing, and so on.
