I was expecting that the first two bands, Tyler Read and Fair to Midland would not be that great. My expectation was that they would be bands like Chevelle, but not as good. I just got back from the Grand Canyon. Almost as striking as the view was the fact that my ride and I were just about the only Americans there. There are stereotypes about crowds of Japanese tourists, and these really fit. They were all taking pictures of a squirrel. They have squirrels don't they?

For the last few days we've had some problems with the robot. Whenever we were connected to the network, after about an hour the robot's motion controller would crash. This mysterious (and previously unseen) failure caused much worry and frustration. Eventually we got some of the guys from KSC (who are running our network) to run a packet sniffer ( Read more... )

This morning some of the test team was waiting around for another member to show up before we could leave. The three older guys I was waiting with simultaneously decided that it was time to phone home. I thought it was a little odd that they would all do that at exactly the same time. 7am is apparently wife-call-o'clock.

I got back from the yearly family vacation yesterday. This year we went to Vermont and stayed in a ski house. It seemed really convenient to have the option of skiing down to the lift in the morning and skiing back to your house whenever you want a break. It took all day, but I finally completed everything and drove off with my shiny, shiny, new '07 Mustang. I'm still in sort of a state of disbelief. I had very optimistically predicted that I would finish my application the day after I took the GRE for the second time. It actually took me until Friday to do it. But it's done at last. All I'm waiting on is recommendations from professors.

I just won the weekly poker for the second time, which is enough to zero me out overall. That puts me in second place for all time money change. Woo. Also, it took us more than 7 hours to resolve the game this time, with about 6 before anyone was eliminated.

I got everything set up today.
