[Phone]

Alright, this is the last time - no, dammit, of course not. Frankly, I'd be happy getting anybody now.

Oi, if there's anyone listening, would you mind telling me where this is?  It's all rather weird - not that I haven't seen weirder, but usually I was expecting something weird to happen then, if you know what I mean. I mean, if you go to ( Read more... )

What, they haven't got long distance? They are old - I mean, for God's sake, they're landlines - but surely they're not that old.

I rather thought so - whole thing with the family portrait gallery tipped me off. The real question, I suppose is how complicated it is. And why it's complicated - there isn't really a system for determining levels of complicated-ness anyways, so why is really more important. Especially in a situation like this.

You don't know me. I'm sure I can have this worked out in a few days.

[Strange man inspecting stuff, huh? He's totally checking out the same plants as you.]

Really don't see many of these back home. Earth's practically covered in alien plant life. Well, the version I come from, at least.

[The word "alien" definitely perks him up.] So you're saying that your society has made contact with other species, then? Which ones?

You really should be careful, foreign plant life can overpower the native stuff pretty easily. Look at kudzu.

Yup! We actually have them living among us. Uh, really not sure of every species but I know we have Troobians, Sirians, and well... lots of aliens that look like animals we've found on Earth in the past. Like, well... giant humanoid dogs with scales, and... giant humanoid birds... apes, even... walruses?

That's true, but it doesn't really stop the higher class citizens. You know how they are, always wanting the most expensive stuff around. And of course, the aliens bringing stuff from home. Really isn't too big of a problem yet, but it could pose one in the future. Well, future future, I guess.

Um... can I help you,sir?

Have you noticed any sort of unusual radiation or energy fields anywhere? It'd be a lot easier to pick out if I had some kind of analyzer, or at least lab access, but sometimes you can tell from looking...

A-Ah, afraid I wouldn't know. Not really my area. Before she was droned, there was a woman here by the name of Lark who had a geiger counter, but that's about it. I-It's long gone now.

But, um, whatever you're looking for isn't going to be in my flowerbed, I think.

It didn't tend to go off a lot, did it?

No, you're probably right. Lessee, next question... are there any strange machines in the area? Or any large structures that are always off-limits and could possibly contain them?

Ah, yes, I don't suppose you've noticed anything capable of initiating a spatial loop?

imwotchingyou June 13 2011, 04:29:47 UTC
You mean the cause of the highway looping in on itself? No, afraid not.

((Please forgive the lateness of this response. I got hit with a cold.))

Oh, so the highway does that, too? I was thinking of the town actually; very curious, you try to go out one end and end up entering the other, and the whole town is so damn homogenous that I didn't even notice the first few times.

Have you ever noticed anything funny about the soil here? Odd colors, off smells, that sort of thing?

Reply

istheatmosphere June 10 2011, 17:39:43 UTC
Not really, but I confess I'm not as familiar with Earth's soil as a local would be.

noble_right June 11 2011, 21:58:01 UTC
So you're not a local to Earth? What is your homeplanet, then?
