so i talked to my stupid mom. i HAD to, because i needed her income information and signature in order to get a student loan. she doesn't make shit, and i didn't make shit last year either (according to the books anyway ;)), so i should have no problem getting plenty of money. this is the last chance i have at going to school and getting my life ( Read more... )

i've never lived in a dorm but i have a lot of friends who have. they seem to differ from college to college. you usually are pretty cramped, with only room for your twin bed, computer desk, and clothes closet. sometimes you will have a mini fridge/microwave/stove but no kitchen at all really. sometimes you will share a bathroom (toilet/shower/sink) with the suite next to you, sometimes they are communal showers. there's advantages and disadvantages to both so i wouldn't worry about it if i were you. your roommate maybe can fuck with your stuff if you don't keep it under wraps but it's really easy to lock up your computer or dresser drawers. your door usually locks too ( ... )

yeah, i checked out the dorms today. they are way better than i thought they'd be. VERY BIG!

and here's the great thing about it: flint has a program for students who have a GPA of 3.5 and above... they get totally free housing. and if you have a GPA of 3.0-3.5, you get 50% off your housing costs. i have a 3.2 at the moment and intend to raise it.. so it would be FREE.

yeah, i have the same loan as you... the one "for kids who SHOULD BE RECIEVING BIG ASS GRANTS BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS SUCK BUT THEY ARE UNDER 24 AND THUSLY "DEPENDENT". hahaha. everything worked out ok though, cuz my parents are divorced so they looked at my mom's income which was practically nothing. and i made nothing on the books, so i've gotta get some money.

not sure if i'm gonna work at that club yet. i still have to check it out, i just gotta settle into my college first.

thanks for the advice. :)

i am SO happy to hear that you life is starting to get back on track!

Owosso is a great school, great little town but you would have a hard time trying to find a job there, the economy there is NIL.

Flint town however, awesome about that club... and flint is scary, but at least you'll be going back to school.

You should check on grants and shit such as fasfa and fastweb.com - scholarships x a billion there.

and even though dorm life can be cramped (it varies school to school) at least it will be someplace to hang your coat and live a relatively stress free life for a while. community bathrooms aren't that awful sounding, either. Plus, like the comment said above, some dorms come with a meal plan, which is cheap food.

i hope everything works out for you!!

well, i went to flint today to check out the college. i was told that it is a nice area of flint, but that if i turned left on bristol road instead of right, then i would be in a bad area. so hopefully i never turn the wrong way and get lost in flint ( ... )

I live in a dorm, and I must say-- I have no qualms about it. If you're an easy person to live with and you get a roommate, you probably won't have too many problems.

I live in a single, so-- it's even ten times easier. I hope it works out for you, I'm sure it will. I got a ton of student loans with no problem under similar circumstances with money (and I probably had more than you).

Anyways, I hope everything works out. You've been through... a lot. I may have not commented on your journals, but I definitely read them to make sure you are at least alive and kickin'.

i refuse to work in a club without a VIP. some of them just have table dances or crappy little booths, and that seriously impedes money making. NOTHING forces a guy into spending money like a VIP room does, especially when i'm making him do shots with me (nevermind the fact that i don't drink anymore and the waitress fills my shot with non-alcoholic substance). ;)

you didn't tell me much about your dorm adventures, besides your crazy hikes in 8 feet of snow. or maybe i just don't remember. i'm not scared of flint though... after working as a stripper in detroit i'm not scared of ANYTHING. i danced on a stage in front of a bunch of gangsta dudes who looked like 50 cent, while they yelled in ebonics and threw one dollar bills at me. then sometimes people would fight and the police would raid the club. IT WAS LIKE LIVING IN A RAP VIDEO.

"Do you think that your lanyard to social normalcy THE INTERNETS (plus your underlying character) had something to do with you not descending into the pits of moral depravity?" i don't think i ( ... )

Cool. You and Jeff could come by for beers at the Tap Room or something... probably kind of a hike for Jeff though. :/

In hindsight I'm not really sure what I meant by the question except I guess I should have said "remaining in" instead of "descending into." I also wanted a clever reason to say "lanyard."

I should tell you about Chris and I's VIP room adventure at the Larry Flynt club near St. Louis, I'm sure you'll laugh at it.
