This is an article that fearthegecko wrote and posted on a community and that I found very interesting. The reactions to this article will (hopefully) be interesting also, so please read and comment.

"The Morganfield Police Department is dissemindating the following information to parents in the area:

-- Monitor your teens behavior for sudden and extreme changes in personality, especially in the following areas:
-- Are your teens eating habits changing dramatically, especially if they are less interested in eating?
-- Are your kids excessively secretive about their computer use?
-- Are your children receiving unusual mail or mail without return addresses?
-- Are your children interested in obtaining private mailboxes without the need?

Teens are often under the mistaken impression that abusing substances such as dextromethorphan, inhalants and nitrous oxide as not as dangerous as traditional "street" drugs. This is a fallacy that law enforcement, parents and the media need to work hard to dispel. These myths can in fact be deadly.

For more information on dextromethorphan, go to: www.dea.gov (Source: DEA)"

---Changes in personality? Uhhhh, have these people ever heard of puberty?
---Changes in eating habits? There's one general rule for the eating habits of teens: A group of guys will be able to clean out a refrigerator in under 10 minutes, and a group of girls will share a piece of celery.
---Secretive about computer use? Even when i wasn't up to no good, i was always secretive about my computer use. Whether it was because there were dirty emails from my girlfriend, or dirty pictures from my friends. What kid comes out and announces what they're doing on the net?
---What teen recieves mail? Seriously: At that age, you don't have a credit card, so your name isn't on every freaking junk mail list. Anything else is birthday or christmas cards.
---The only worthwhile piece of info is about the PO boxes. I'm of age and i don't have a seperate PO box. I just make sure everything is mailed to me in plain brown paper wrapping.

Jesus Christ, all these supposed signs of drug use are prety much the exact same signs of adolesance. No wonder so many kids are on drugs, their parents are already assuming that they're strung out, and if every asshole was putting me under a microscope, i'd sure as hell be fucked up every day.....oh wait, i was.

And of course, if parents in small-town (one of the main stories for this past week was that the local jail was overpopulated at 36 inmates) Union County are concerned about this horrible drug (that was menacing detroit at this time, mind you), they can naturally turn to that fountain of truth: The DEA. The same people who claim that

"Marijuana users have suicidal thoughts and are four times more likely to report symptoms of depression than people who never used the drug."(warning: that link opens up Adobe Acrobat, so if your comp pauses for a sec, don't freak).

The same people who vehemtly deny the proof that D.A.R.E. actually breeds more drug users than it prevents. Hell, look at that statement above. It's not some marijuana users, just pretty much marijuana users in general. Funny, because i always remember smoking pot because I was depressed.

I'm sorry to be ranting and raving it's just that the amount of misinformation in this country makes me sick. What makes it worse is that the majority of this country would willingly accept whatever their government told them without question, just because it was coming from an authoritive figure.

It amazes me that all these flag-waving idiots can sit there and argue to death that this is the best country in the world based solely on the fact that we are "free" when in reality, there is very little to no freedom. There are more non-violent drug offenders in prison now more than ever before because the idea of a responsible drug user is totally uncomprehensible to the government.

The idea of a single responsible drug user is unbelievable, yet here i sit, posting to communtiy of many of them. And the hypocrisy is so appearent, it drives me crazy that no one else can see it. There is supposedly such a thing as "responsible drinking" and "social drinkers", which - when you consider the fact that alcohol in itself is a drug - are physical impossibilites. If they were possible, then "responsible tripping" and "social snorting" would be a possibility as well. And of course, they are. But at this point, i believe the govenrment has dug itself so deep, that drug law reformation isn't even a question of common sense or real legality, it's a question of pride.

I find it morbidly hilarious that the government creates a law - take the banning of marijuana for example - a law that is obviously absurd, and instead of considering the possibility that said law might be ridiculous, they create more absurd laws to justify it. Instead of downgrading marijuana from a controlled substance (which i was once told by a DARE teacher was only done to justify the Bureau of Narcotic's budget after opiate use was reduced - not a fact, but something i wouldn't be surprised to learn was the truth), legalizing it and taxing it, laws are made to block the average farmer from growing hemp (which in reality contains less than 1% THC in it) and to make even poesessing paraphanellia illegal (which is the same for both the obvious four-foot bong in the dorm room and unobvious wooden pipe that many a grandfather has smoked tobacco out of). And when that doesen't work, further laws are enacted: allowing random drug tests and locker searches in schools, allowing racial profiling in one way or another, and resulting in the continued trampling of our rights.

Look at the vendors of mushroom spores that have been raided by the DEA for selling a perfectly legal product. The DEA has shut down a bunch of these guys under the reasoning that they were selling a product that could be used in the production of a controlled substance. Well, fuck man. If that was the case, let's close down every pharmacy in America. Let's shut down these guys that sell people vicks' inhalers cases at a time, like anyone honestly needs 50-60 of them every other day. Let's close every single retailer in America, just because sooner or later there will be a product that can either be used to get you high or be used to create a drug. And then if it's not drugs, then it can be used as a weapon or to make a weapon. Hell, let's continue this culture of fear until we're all afraid to leave out homes.
