Amanda had been prepared for many things in her life- her marriage, her friends, her home. But she now knew she could take on a culture for the sake of not only her self, but for her son. Amanda Greyson is my hero. Seriously.
But she is- I mean, to be a teacher and a friend and very brave, indeed, to go into a Alien culture and not be destroyed spiritualy- I really, really like her. I like to think that Spock got some of his rebellious nature from Amanda (and Sarek, though it would proabably kill him to admit it!)
I would like to think that T'Pau eventually comes around. She is a bit racist as is evidenced by her reaction to Kirk and McCoy, but maybe when she sees that wee!Spock is JUST THAT AWESOME, she decides he's alright.
Hope springs eternal, as they say.
This is lovely, well written. As a mother myself, I really feel for Amanda. How could you reject a baby? How could you reject my sweet little perfect baby? How dare you and who do you think you are? (Point of note: I don't care if you're T'Pau)
This: Amanda knew the respect due a mother had to be earned by T’pau.
Oh, there is definitely a sequel, and it's just about that- who does T'pau think she is, and why does she violate what she is to be so very rude to Amanda, and risk the relationship to her own clan son.
But yeah, once you start making your own life, and then become a mother, you are in charge of your own house, and somehow another mother has to prove her worth too, you know?
You are right- it's the three musketeers, really. This is my interpretation, by the way, of the Reboot relationship. I really do think that in this timeline, Amanda and Sarek were better and more loving parents who probably did not rip Spock apart in the way that you saw hinted in TOS. I think it was probably the destruction of the Kelvin that ironically made the marriage stronger; Sarek would have not put with challenges to his wife, and Amanda would have protected her own Humanity while protecting her son's sense of self.
There is an interesting take on Amanda/Sarek done by Pat Foley(ff.net). It's incredible- Amanda is a very strong person, Sarek's crazy, and both of them are horrid parents, to the point where you are both rooting for Amanda and Sarek's marriage androoting for Spock to get the hell out of that house asap.
