So, the way I see it there are 5 types of data loss I want to avoid:

1. Failed Hardware (i.e. hard drive failure)
   
2. Corrupted Data (possibly due to silent hardware failure, i.e. single bit errors on a disk)
   
3. Location Failure (i.e fire)
   
4. User mistake (i.e. accidental deletion)
   
5. Unreplicated data (i.e. the stuff you forgot to backup)
