Wacky weather

Since then we've had fog, wind, cold, and more wind. Now it's raining, a fine soft cold drizzle like we'd expect in November or April ( Read more... )

The heat snap killed all my seedlings. I am trying again today hoping that the mild weather will give them a chance to grow. The plants I purchased are fine though. I am kinda miffed at this crazy weather.

Down here in the Valley of Earthly Delights (aka Sillicon Valley), the bees and butterflies are the only ones enjoying the (6 foot tall) greens, and the carrots, sunflowers and basil I seeded at the end of April are still MIA. I live right on the bay in Richmond, and it's generally too cold to even enjoy spending time in my yard, but that heat snap caused crazy high temps, even at my place. It happen just as my peas were blooming, and immediately wilted them all. I don't think I'll be getting any crop of peas or green beans after that. We've been going outside and snacking on the few pods that have grown, one by one, because there aren't enough to harvest.

I'd just planted a lemon tree that was just blooming, too, and it lost nearly all its leaves.

My herbs, peppers, and artichokes seemed to make it through okay, though.
