When i fell in love with Buffy'n'Spike

With all the mental strain season 8  put on me i thought it'd be more healthy to revisit the places i actually love about BtVS.

A recent discussion on penny_lane_42  's LJ, following her lovely Meta of Buffy and Spike turned my thoughts on the romance of Buffy'n'Spike and why and when i fell in love with the two together.
But in chronological order )

btvs, buffy, buffy'n'spike

LOVE:
"He never mentions that beating later - because it is not a breaking point for him. It is his (twisted) way of showing his romantic love for Buffy. He doesn't need to forgive her for that - it is not even a wrongdoing on his radar."

That's a pretty awesome and unique moment to fall in love with Spuffy. I can't really remember when I did. It might have been in "Fool for Love" during the alley fight intercutting with the Subway Slayer fight.

Not to copy blackfrancine, but taking into account the Dead Things love and the fascinating analysis and the awesome post on Red Army women snipers and pilots that I adored....

...May I be your friend?

After I read this post yesterday I went back and rewatched Dead Things in full for the first time in ....three months ;) ... and was reminded what a brilliant episode it is from beginning to end: how it seamlessly braids the threads of dark drama and sly or goofy comedy together, as the best BtVS eps do. I don't remember when I fell for the Buffy/Spike story - when I began to root for them as a couple; and again this is only a few months ago, so I should, but I watched in such a rush it's hard to tell. I do remember watching the scene at the beginning of Dead Things (under the rugs), and Buffy seeming more relaxed than we'd seen her in a very long time and thinking that I wished she could, just once, really let herself ENJOY being with Spike (never mind the no-soul bit); and so maybe that was the moment for me as well? I think it was more of a progression, but that really stood out ( ... )

I fell in love with Spuffy because of Fool for Love, because of that famous final scene outside Buffy's house. When I first saw Buffy and Spike in comfortable silence together, I thought clearly: they're OTP.
I really love your tribute and I agree with you about Season Six, about Riley and fascism plot-line, about wanting to see Buffy happy.

My take on DT and especially the alley scene is exactly the same as yours (which I think is minority opinion on it) - and it's become one of my favorite episodes, in terms of painful, troubling, haunting. The scene where she commands, hopelessly "Stop loving me!" "Do you think I haven't tried?" "Try harder!" Breaks my heart. They are both in so much pain, wanting and needing something that goes against all the rules, that hurts so terribly (he's neither man nor vampire anymore, she's not sure if she's a woman or a demon, so they are both caught betwixt and between); her command to "stop loving me" is the cry of a woman who doesn't believe she deserves to be love, but in saying that, she acknowledges, perhaps without intending to, that his love is real. (And I do believe that she feels something for him, very deeply, but that's another conversation.)

I could go on and on about that episode but you've summed it up very nicely.
