I not only love this because I watch BBT reruns pretty much daily (should I admit that?), but also because this is pure GOLD. I love your writing.
I love watching the relationships between my dogs develop and change over the years. I think Slider is my Sheldon, Merc is my Penny, and Steam and Davy are Raj and Howard. :-) I am the Leonard who tries to keep everyone happy together.
Great post! I don't watch the show, but I'm getting the gist. Things work pretty smoothly at our house, not too many rules, not too much conflict. It gets more complicated in the summer when we have four dogs. I would guess generally with more dogs it's more complicated.
If you follow my hypothesis...The number of dogs probably doesn't matter, more the personality of them. Of course, the more dogs you add, the bigger the likelihood of unmatched personalities. When I had only Ruben and Raze, it wasn't a good match. Two VERY different dogs. Rumble and Razor get along great, but I have the feeling Rums would get along in almost any set up.
I try to coach my clients who are caught up on the idea of pack order and dominance to approach it more like parenting. The dogs do need guidance and someone who knows a bit more than they do about what sorts of things a dog needs to know living in a human world, but it can be approached thru teaching and communication, not bullying and bossing. So outdated and that friggin CM has set back dog training to the dark ages....
Love this... Beep is Sheldon, Poppet is Raj/Howard and Noodle is Penny. I have no idea who dominates my pack. All I care about is that everyone gets along!
