The New Car
We picked up the Tesla yesterday. As one of Valerie's friends said, "it's like driving a laptop". We're still learning the operating system. We played with cruise control, climate control, and navigation, and now we're playing with range. We drove 75 miles today, and used about 50% (from about 80% down to about 30%), so it seems like it's not as ( Read more... ) -
More money than sense
We bought a Tesla.
It's a used 2015 model S. We don't have it yet; we're still working on the paperwork and registration and all that rot. We had been hoping to get Tesla to do a "used vehicle pre-purchase inspection" thing, but it turns out they don't really offer that service. And, who else is going to know about them? Not Ironman today
I finally found a time and blood drive that would work for me, so I went to the local library at 4 PM today, where they first had me sit around for half an hour, and then prick my fingers and tell me to go home because my iron levels were too low. Bummer.
The Internet seems to think that iron supplements will take effect after 2-3 weeks, so perhaps ( Read more... ) -

On mice
I decided to stop having a heart, much as it was amusing. In the last three weeks, I have killed at least 20 mice. That is a lot! I have the kind of traps where they are easy and safe to set and easy to shake the mouse out without having to touch it. For most of this time, the mouse didn't get very much of the bait before tripping the trap, and so ( Read more... ) -
Much lake activity
We started our boat work on Wednesday, retrieving the power boat from the shop, and putting it in its winter home in the front of the yard.
Thanksgiving afternoon we took the sailboat out of the water. It was not really windy enough, so there was a little paddling by the crew, but it was lovely and warm (55), so we thought that was a better day. No ( Read more... ) -
In more fun news...
We took the power boat out of the lake today. It has an appt at the shop Tuesday to get its (as Ken put it) "neonatal appointment" (plus winterizing.) Supposed to be at 20 hours of operation, but we've only had about 12. They said it made sense given that it's winterize time and half the stuff's the same.

On death
So I haven't posted about this yet, because it's kind of too depressing.
Ken's sister died last Sunday. A not very close friend was taken off of life support around that time. A closer friend died on Tuesday. And now Valerie's brother is going to die in the next few days.

Cat Interaction
My cat loves to lie in the sun.
I speak to my cat periodically.
This just happened:
She walks over to the sunny patch, and meows. I don't realize she is in the sunny patch, and I say the usual inane things like "Hi Kitty". She walks over towards me, and I realize she was coming from the sunny patch, so I say "you don't need to come over here and be ( Read more... ) -
Car musings
Stopped by a VW dealer today, to look at an ID.4. It has the flaw that all modern cars have of just too much fancy garbage. Like, in order to turn on the reading light you just touch it, but since there's no tactile feedback, it makes a clicking sound. But, that clicking sound doesn't come from the light, it comes from the audio system of the car. ( Read more... )
