It's also not something she wants Sam to know. He ran to Magnus over the bruises Aidan and she gave each other, and if he finds out she doesn't sleep, he'll go to Magnus with that too. So she shows up looking not quite awake, still finger-combing her hair back and twisting the sides up. Not so rough that she looks hungover, but like she just rolled out of bed.
"If you tell me you brought coffee, I might forget that I hate you," Kate says, and her voice sounds rough too. Sometimes, being as good a con artist as she is comes in handy.

"I do have guns and booze though, which I realize isn't the most awesome combination, but I figure that we won't be mixing the two, so it's okay."
After their time in the jungle, Sam wasn't going to dismiss Kate as someone who wouldn't take this seriously. She had taken their hike to the dinosaurs pretty seriously, and that was just walking through the jungle.

He already thinks she's reckless and wild. Why give him the real reason she takes the alcohol and puts it in the pack she's made and seals it? At least he won't miss her when she figures out a way out of here.
"Here." She holds out her hands for the guns when she stands again. "Let me see those." Hopefully he knows enough to keep the barrels down when he hands them over.

Sam slung off his backpack and took out the guns. He knew enough to know that you were supposed to teach every gun as if it were loaded and never point it at anything you didn't intend to shoot. He handed them over to her one at a time; grip first, barrel pointed down.
"I have no idea how clean they are," Sam said with a shrug. "They've been down there for a while so they're probably pretty dusty."
