[A → Action; 340 Brady Lane: Early Morning]

[There's a lot of things wrong with this morning. A lot of things wrong. For one, this isn't his bed. He knows this because he's had his bed for how long? Anyways, this isn't his bed. Second, last time he checked, he had some dashing and lovely scars to go with his whole vigilante image. Now how in the ( Read more... )

[ Sleeping next to the drone wasn't nearly as bad as sleeping by Reaver. Then again, it seems the two rarely spent a minute in the same house at the same time (and sometimes she would just crash outside on the porch or on the couch in the living room anyhow).

Meiling rolls over onto the newly-vacated spot, murmuring something about how warm it was and how it was too early and that she wasn't going to let him destroy the mansion.

--this is perfectly normal sleep talk. Hush. ]

Even better!

[ That first part surprises her a bit. ] What kind of sleep schedule? Do you know what your job is supposed to be, already?

I haven't checked wha-I have a job already? [Wow, this place works fast.] No, but I'm a bit of a night owl at times. But I'll be sure not to cause problems about it.

Yeah, just like you already have a "family". [ Air-quotes and everything. ] I work at the school as a janitor, so it won't be a problem if you're in during the day or something. I can't take my siestas anyway...

I guess, at least this place likes to be thorough. [Rolls his eyes.] I'll check what job I have. Hopefully it isn't business related. I really hate those type of jobs. [They're so boring and too technical.]

It would be ideal if they gave you something you're already good at! [ She slides over to the other side of the bed, to her hairbrush. ] I haven't had to do cleaning around the mansion in decades, so I don't know where they got the idea that I'd be any good at it...

It really would. Although I can't say I'm terribly bad at a lot of things. [Quite the opposite.]

Well, I don't know much about this place. But the setting seems to fee- [He had gotten up to look out the window.] Very...suburban... [Ew.]

It's pretty boring. That's exactly why I had to spruce things up a bit. [ If he takes a look down at the garden, just about everything stands out from the rest. The red fence instead of white pickets, the little "house" instead of the plain mailbox tin, the assortment of flowers and shrubs in a rainbow of colors all lovingly arranged in their stone-bordered plots.

Her talent is wasted on mopping floors. She hums as she runs the comb through her scarlet locks. ] It's nice to finally stand out from most of the other houses on the row.

[He smiles a little as he looks over the garden.] I like it. You did a rather good job with it. [It feels a little more homey at the very least.

Because this place sucks. Hopefully she can get a change in job someday.] Everything looking the same is a little disturbing. But maybe that's the point.

Mm, thank you! It's part of what I did back home, and the only hard part was paying for it all.

[ Her movements slow as she things that over. ] I think you're right. Even when things get crazy, you can wake up and very little about the town ever really changes...

Well, the upkeep will be a little easier I suppose. I guess with me having an income myself. And I'm assuming that gender roles are quite important in this place. [Which he hates because he knows a lot of women who could kick his ass.]

it's too bad no one else seems to want to make their house look any different. If it weren't for an address, I'd constantly get lost with everything looking the same.

This place is kind of backwards like that. [ Speaking of gender roles, coming from a world where the most powerful beings are women... ]

I had that problem the first day! That was kind of embarrassing.

It reminds me of the really old reality TV shows I watched. In the past, women were considered lower then males. It wasn't exactly a flattering time.

I'll be sure to make sure I memorize the address before I ever leave the place.

[ She just has to stare a moment, but then her expression softens. ] It's good that you don't think like that. [ Or so she interpreted from his wording. Putting the brush aside, she grabbed some small black ribbons and began braiding the shorter strips of hair that hung over her ears. ] In Gensokyo, where I'm from, there were very few men around except in the human village.

Well, I have a large list of women who I know could kick my ass in a heartbeat. I'm in a society where that type of thinking isn't exactly looked well upon. There's some people who think like that still, but that's just society.

[He's going to put some clothes on, seeing as he doesn't plan on going back to bed anyways.] Oh? Society was pretty even in the male and female populace for me.

[ Meiling continued to sit on the edge of the bed, not caring about talking to someone while in her nightgown. ] Mm, it's true. I never asked why that was, but it might just be one big coincidence. I think it would be interesting if it was more like your world.
