a post that is all about glasses

So after reading this blog post, which led to THIS blog post, which led to this site, I've become slightly obsessed with buying glasses online. Yes, online. I was skeptical too, but I need new glasses for my updated prescription, and I can't afford the hundreds of dollars I'd have to pay at a physical glasses store, so I've been putting it off. I've bought my last two pairs of eyeglasses online. The first pair I got for less than $10. Definitely worth trying. :)

Oh, and I got both pairs at Coastal Contacts. I must've caught a never-again sale the first time, because I've never seen any that cheap again -- even the same exact frames.

Check out glassyeyes.blogspot.com -- they have detailed reviews and pricing rundowns for various sites. (Like, if you need progressives, or thinner lenses, or fast shipping, what the costs would be.) They also have coupons for which he gets a cut. (You can also sometimes find coupons at retailmenot.com -- I try to always check there before I order anything online.)

yeah, that's the third link at the top of the post. I haven't explored all areas of the site yet, but it's really useful and the coupons are great.

I used to use retailmenot, but so many companies are on to it now and won't let their coupon codes be shown there, so I stopped even checking. I'll have to look for glasses coupons there, though.

Coastal Contacts does have some $19 frames in their clearance section, which is pretty good, but most of their frames are way more than that.

Yeah, but CC used to have better free lenses -- I got the under $10 glasses with somewhat thin lenses, but now you have to pay for that. (The default is like 1.51, thick thick thick ( ... )

I've bought 3 pairs from Zenni, all with really good results.

Ha, I'm surprised everyone in the comments already knew about this! It's a brand-new world to me.

hee! It's amazing how much $ you can save.

And I even managed to get progressive trifocals via Zenni! And I realized, I actually have 4 frames from them. Last time, I got a pair of prescription sunglasses, as well.

In fact, the reason I used Zenni is because not many do the progressive lenses. And I had a problem with 1 frame I picked out - it wasn't tall enough to handle progressives. They emailed me, offered me 3 other frames that were very similar but could fit the lenses, and we worked it out.

Yeah, just for the record, I bought four pairs from Zenni two years ago and have been happy with all of them, though in one case I chose the frames poorly. I am wearing the sunglasses I got from them today, actually.

I've gotten six or seven pairs from Zenni--they have a pretty much non-existant return policy, but I just donate anything that doesn't fit me to the Lions Club for their glasses charity. I haven't bought anything since they added their upload-your-pic option, but I need new glasses soon so I may have to try that.

Online glasses shops are awesome.

yeah that's the great thing about it, they're so cheap that even if they don't fit, it's not a huge deal. Zenni especially since the cost is so low. I might be a little more miffed if one of the more expensive designer pairs from Coastal Contacts didn't fit, but they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so.
