You've been in Texas for more than a year and no one has challeneged you to a fight over something stupid? I have to say I'm honestly surprised. Isn't there a good possibility that at any given moment people like that could shoot you.

I agree that terror is a bad child-rearing strategy. And I do agree that there are limits to judging by one's own up-bringing, but my general beef is that I think people should have the sense to either keep their kids from misbehaving, or take them out of the place ( ... )

You'll note, also, somewhat humorously, that libertarian philosophy totally breaks down when it comes to children.

I actually didn't know that. I'm only passingly familiar with Libertarian philosophy in a very loose Jeffersonian sense.

Perhaps the better response would have been "Hey, shut that kid up" as opposed to yelling at said child...

But then again, your hatred of all things children only further discourages me from ever wanting to reproduce, so perhaps I shouldn't discourage you from being mean to them for my own sake.

Or maybe corporations should pay more taxes so that the state can claim self defence when it kills people on its land!

Kids are waaaaay more intelligent than most people give them credit for. Not experienced, but smart. The trick is that (from my experience) they are incredibly self serving and all of their burgeoning intellect goes towards getting what they want. They will constantly explore the boundaries of what they can and can not get away with ( ... )
