Hi! Your courses sounds pretty great! Except for the people totally missing the point on feminism part. But you know, overall.

Life is good -- went to South By Southwest last weekend and it was awesome! Fandom is... hockey, mostly. But with dashes here and there of other stuff. I keep reading fic for things I haven't seen yet, like The Social Network and The Eagle and Merlin. And sometimes fic for things I actually have seen, like Hawaii Five-0 and Sherlock and Community. And other things! But mostly hockey.

Well, it's an interesting history on the theory of Western thought that's occasionally frustrating. But mostly good, yes.

Hello! I noticed you hadn't been around much.

It is hard to stay on top of work, isn't it? I too am treading water among lots of reading. That's what my life has been at the moment recently.
The crossover from life and fandom is that I'm writing an essay about discourses in skating, but it isn't going so well. It's switched from a 'masculinity as a social construct as shown in skaters' to just stuff about it being sport or it being art. So I'm not able to use all my cool Johnny/Evan examples like I wanted to. Finding texts showing these discourses has been quite difficult.

My life has been all reading and essays, and it gets somewhat hectic.

That sounds like a really fascinating idea, though! It's always awesome when you can take something that you like and translate it over into schoolwork.

I am so sick of the stupid attitudes towards feminism and people who deny being feminists because they think it's all militant feminism. No, actually, if you care about women's rights and making things better for women? You are a feminist.

This is exactly it! I am sick of trying to say that feminism itself can't be defined by its extremes, just like you can't define anything by its extremes. Most frustrating thing in my life. And I just hate that there's such a ridiculous stigma attached to it, so that sometimes I feel like I can't say what I want to say, because it'll be too scary-feminist, or something.
