Hey guys. Are we still friends? I have been gone for a while, I know. I'm sorry. It's not you, it's me. But we're not breaking up! As soon as summer gets here, I'm sure I'll be posting annoyingly once a day or something close to that ( Read more... )

Always friends! ♥ I've been fairly inactive as well, but such is life sometimes. My fandoms change with the month, lately, but it's nice to just kind of float around the edges of fandoms on occasion. :)

♥! It is indeed nice to just float around the edges of fandoms. When I'm actually online, I'm sort of looking at TSN and H50, with some Inception and Glee thrown in there.

I suspect that those people have been witness to the unfortunate brand of "feminism" that I've been unlucky enough to come across a few times--i.e. the people who think that women deserve MORE than men instead of equality, who get offended by anything that is sexist towards women but who are themselves incredibly insulting and sexist towards men, etc. Which, you know...reverse bigotry of ANY sort makes me incensed as much as the original bigotry does. And, unfortunately, leads to the sort of reaction that you're getting in your class. This is not at all to say that I think they're right to be ignorant to the actual meanings of feminism, but I've heard enough of the gross side of supposed "feminism" to get why they're ignorant. Again, I hope that doesn't come across like I'm saying they're right.

On another note, a course called Making Gender sounds absolutely FASCINATING. I'm incredibly interested in the development of gender understanding, identity, and stereotyping, etc. Please give updates on that one, it sounds suuuper

Oh no, I totally understand how it happens! In fact, when I went to the talk we had that night, I was surprised at how many feminists said things that, to me, were just sort of unacceptable. Like "We shouldn't have gender constructs, because they're problematic, BUT...nature is inherently female, because of the womb." REALLY? Firstly, that's hypocritical, and secondly, how can you possibly say you support equality and then go around and make claims about how something vital is only linked to one gender? (I also find it problematic when people say things that link rape culture back to how we've "raped" the earth. I just...no.)

I am super excited about all my Gender and Women's Studies courses, actually. I promise updates!
