In the past two weeks, a very big problem has been shoved in my face a couple of times. For some reason, I can't just brush this off. It lingers, and manifests every thought. I constantly think about how much it bugs, angers and saddens me all at the same time. After a a long time of thinking about it, I can't keep my distaste unspoken. I can't ( Read more... )

I agree.. but I do think there is a difference between pornography and erotica which should be defined. Erotica is consensual... while porn... well- The oppression is built into the word. Originally in Greek, 'porno' meant, "bought, purchased, exported, sold" and 'graphos' means writing. So pornography means directly - writing of whores or female prisoners. So the word itself derives from an idea of sexual slavery. Pornography not only conditions men to hold all women to unattainable standards (although when I say women.. I am being broad because the culture it creates also holds young girls to this standard that could hardly be called women.) It also conditions men to expect sexual subservience. They want their women in real life to act not only like the women in porn but they want the same convenience. They become accustomed to the instant gratification that they get from masturbation to porn that they have this image of how sex should go that corresponds to how their masturbation goes (when they want it and for two minutes). Sex is ( ... )

i don't necessarily think it is women thinking they need to fit into that mold because i'm sure you and any smart woman would not fall for that shit and start wearing 7 inch heels and latex. Some girls like watching porn/erotica just as much as the mens. Guys and gals might try to be like them but this is all dealing with separating tv with reality. I do think its fucked in some ways but other ways it isn't. If i wanted to be a porn star it would prob be to make money and i don't think we have the right to tell someone they cant do that. If they're being forced yes but otherwise i think its the peoples choice. not all porno is edited to look pretty mostly just the expensive ones.. I just think that we shouldn't blame the smut but the people that take it all too seriously and try to make it real life. or guys that think that all girls are supposed to hookers because there are girls in porno that act like it. porno began when women were suppressed and i'm not sure if that was a woman's idea or a mans. but why do you think that ( ... )

I agree that porn is a reflection of an instant gratification culture. I also agree that it objectifies and exploits women. Also, porn is a predominantly Men's industry. It would be interesting to see porn that is directed at, and directed by, women. Also, one can not forget how common sex toys are among women. Women enjoy porn and sex as well as men, and they should ( ... )

That is really fucking awesome about the Wimmins Fire Brigade - very intense and inspiring. That's filthy that anyone would find it arousing to watch rape porn, but then again a lot of bigger porn magazines (and I'm sure videos) give rather similar situations.... like 'gang bangs' and shit. I wish the feminst collective would start back up, because I thought that was amazing. Maybe we should just start a Wimmins Fire Brigade 2.

Yeah, I'm not implying that it is wrong for men to like big-breasted and tiny waisted women, I'm just saying that a lot of natural beauty is ignored because MOST women do not fucking look like a barbie doll. I think it is physchologically damaging for a man to constantly see these "hot, beautiful" women naked and then walk out into the real world and be let down in a way (which is really fucking gross). I think it hurts him, just as much as it hurts women.
