It was a busy weekend in the news, but relatively quiet at home (which was alright). Alas, the weather frightened us away from the Crawfish Festival, but we'll try to make it next year.
*smile* I know of a man who was absolutely vital to his company's progress - if he didn't see it, it didn't get done, basically. He was taking a much-deserved three-week vacation and his boss was all aflutter, demanding that said employee leave an emergency number with boss-man's secretary before leaving. The employee assured him he would.
The first time that boss-man went to call the employee at the emergency number, he looked up what the employee had left him, and found himself looking at the numbers 911.
Heh. My friend Hamish works for the Strategic Coach. It's funny seeing them giving advice on proper news sites, especially having spent the previous day rolling down hills with one of their writers. I suppose that fits in with the message here, though. :)
As much as I complain about my job, the benefits are alright. I was allowed to take ten business days off for the first time in my life last month. I can say it helped me immensely.
Thanks, Ed. I actually prefer shorter vacations, because they require less personal preparation on my part, and because I can take more of them throughout the year. However, even on short vacations, I never forget (nor let my colleagues forget) that I'm on vacation! :-)
Don't be jealous - you're a chick magnet! They all went wild over Jeanetta's pictures of you. I was jealous! :-)
When the kids were a lot younger, it was difficult both financially and logistically to get away much. They're older now, and I earn more, so it's feasible. My parents think I'm terribly extravagant (they don't even like travel), but I see it differently. As long as I save for our retirement, the kids' education, etc., the rest of the money is for our enjoyment. I have zero interest in scrimping so I can leave an inheritance. :-)
If I could convince all the concert promoters to hold all the events I go to within two weeks and within staggering distance of one another I'd try to take two weeks off in a row. Technically I'm on call 24/7, but sometimes I forget to take the pager with me.

I always found that amusing.

Your hill-rolling adventure looked like great fun! Perhaps long pants instead of trousers next time, though. :-)

Heeheehee. You mean trousers instead of a long skirt! Long pants would have been on display even MORE in the skirt. ;)
I only have one pair of trousers - I'm a skirt person. It was enormous fun, though.

I'd recommend short skirts to a skirt person, naturally. :-)

But, as you said, not everyone has that option.
Your advice is spot on!
