A jittery lab tech fidgeted in his chair as Don leaned back in his. “Look. We’re just trying to piece together what happened. Now… walk me through the last time you saw Agent Walker.”

“Callie… Agent Walker… was helping me in the lab and…”

“Wait… now, she’s a field agent. Why would she be in the lab?”

The tech smiled at that. “That’s the way Callie is. She… likes to stay connected to the science. She’s… really quite brilliant.”

Colby hated to admit it, but the reverence in the tech’s voice spoke of romance… and his insides twisted in jealousy. As if he didn’t have enough on his mind, he thought crossing his arms and watching through the observation room window.

“Okay, so she was in lab…” Don restated.

The tech seemingly grew more comfortable under Don’s gaze, looking back at him. “She was in lab, but… she was distracted. She… just seemed like she had somewhere else she needed to be.”

She needed to be with me, Colby grimaced wondering if that distraction had played a role in her abduction.

“And when did she leave the lab?”

“We… walked out together… around five maybe.”

“Anything else?”

The tech shook his head. “Only… she couldn’t stop smiling when she left. She was excited about something… something other than science.”

Don pursed his lips in thought, considering the tech’s words before tapping the folder on the table and standing up. “All right… thanks… if you think of anything else, you’ll let us know?”

The tech nodded and looked back thoughtfully. “You’ll find her won’t you?” he asked as Don reached the door.

I found her once, I’ll find her again… Colby answered in his own mind, his brows furrowing into a scowl.

Don said nothing, only walked out the door.
