Don squeezed Charlie’s hand as they loaded him onto the ambulance. “I’ll be there as soon as I finish here, Buddy.” He watched the ambulance drive away and then turned. David was leading the shooter away. “Give me five minutes.”
“You know I can’t do that,” David said. “Not that I wouldn’t like to.”
“You get his name yet?”
“Jeff Sanger. They’re running him now.”
Don scowled at Sanger. “Why did you shoot my brother?”
Sanger shrugged. “He got in my way. I was aiming at you.”
David was just barely able to pull Sanger aside before Don’s punch connected.
