I found out yesterday that I have failed my sailing theory exam. I was not surprised, to be honest, given the amount of time I have spent learning the course material. It's all a matter of timing, you know. I now believe more than ever that you meet the right person at the right time to give you that little bit of insight you need to take the next big step in your life. I feel very lucky to have met a genuine muse and I hope we will meet again another time.

Had a lovely August Bank Holiday weekend, visiting my friend Tiger and his wife, Cat. They recently announced that they are expecting, so I had to go up and See them, while she is still reasonably mobile. Never before have I suffered so badly at the hands of Friday's rush-hour traffic. I spent a lovely four hours inching along the M5 from junction 2 to junction 10 of the M6 as six lanes of north-bound motorway traffic from two motorways squeezed into one single lane just before the M54 turn-off.
