I have been a licensed RN since August with no job offers. I live in PA close to the boarders of NJ and finally broke down and decided to jump through all the hoops to get my NJ license as well. I'm sure the answer is no, but once I send the paper work in to apply, can I apply for nursing jobs in NJ or do I have to wait to get a license/license

I was in NY and applied in PA before getting the license # and did get a reply (out of 5 places), and a buddy of mine did the same PA to CA and got offers. The above reply is probably correct that you might not get the responses you want before the license goes through, but there isn't any rule that you can't. Depends on how much they need ya.

Yeah, definitely apply. With a license, in hand, they'll take your application more seriously but you've got nothing to lose. I'm a new grad in CT, I graduated in May, was licensed in CT in late June, didn't get a job until late August. But I was getting antsy and applied for licensure in RI as well. I never got any replies while the RI license was pending and ended up getting hired in CT anyway. It's a sucky market and I wish you the best of luck.

Just out of curiosity, are you just looking in acute settings or have you considered long term care as well? I know it's sounds less than thrilling but it's where I ended up (wasn't my first choice) and I'm definitely learning a lot and getting my feet wet. So, it's an option to consider if you haven't already. Again, good luck.
