[ILC16] Tally Marks

[Challenge][Y][FF]Summary: He gives an ultimatum to the other, knowing with that smug smile that it's entirely impossible.

"If we ever meet again let's not meet like this. I'd like to live a few years longer thank you very much." Kyuhyun scolded. Henry narrowed his eyes but stayed otherwise silent as the other talked to his friends. He thought he did pretty well. He managed not to rear end the other with his car by mere centimeters. He should have commended his quick reflexes.
"Are you two dating?"
Henry blinked at the abrupt question, trying to think what made these people think so. Their actions were hardly affectionate. "We-"
"Of course not." Kyuhyun scoffed.
He glared at the man beside him, his scathing words hitting a nerve. Yes, they weren't dating. But did he have to say it that way?
"Did you really have to say it with that tone?" Henry called out later that afternoon. He picked up his pace as he ran across the grassy field, his bag repeatedly smacking his side while Kyuhyun easily ignored him for most of the way.
"Hey!" He yelled out.
This time Kyuhyun stopped, looking back at the fuming Henry whose eyes remained narrowed angrily at him.
"What's so wrong about dating me?" Henry demanded. Kyuhyun shielded his eyes from the glaring sun.
"Don't take everything into offense." He chided. "And what I said was true anyway. We're not together. I don't understand why you're so mad about it."
"You'd be angry too."
"No. Not really." Kyuhyun reasoned. "Why are you so worked up?"
Henry bit his bottom lip, unsure of how to counter. "Because..." His hands clutched the messenger bag tighter, torn between what to say. Of course he was mad about it. He was bothered because out of all of the people out there, he actually liked this inconsiderate jerk.
His eyes remained trained on the field when he spotted the shadow coming towards him. He looked up to see Kyuhyun standing in front of him, examining him carefully.
"I see." He smirked. "You really have an odd taste in men."
Henry glared and repeated. "What is so bad about dating me?"
"Plenty. But I don't have time to waste to be listing them all to you." Henry reached for his hand, tugging it back as Kyuhyun turned his head towards him again.
"Is it that bad to consider me at all?"
Kyuhyun raised his eyebrows. "You actually want to go out with me?" Henry felt his chest tightened at his soft laughter.
"What if I do?" He retorted irritably. Kyuhyun inhaled, glancing around when an idea popped in his head; a wicked smile tracing his lips.
"When it's nightfall." Kyuhyun pointed up. "Count the stars."
Henry blinked. "What?"
"If you can count every star in the sky, I'll go out with you."
He successfully silenced the other and smiled, walking away in triumph, as Henry could only stare back blankly, stunned.

Kyuhyun leaned slacked against the wall, talking to his classmates when Henry walked past him without a second glance. He waved it off at first, noting how the younger man kept his head buried in the pages of his notebook.
But when it happened time and again, he couldn't help but wondered whether the other was avoiding him. Including the time when the other spoke with their other classmates, but quite pointedly ignoring him.
"Immature." He grumbled under his breath, frustrated as he looked away. Pretending all the while that it didn't bother him in the slightest.

Kyuhyun stretched his arms and popped his shoulders, annoyed that he was woken up by a hysterical phone call from Henry's roommate, screaming that he had gone missing. He had gotten out of bed and started searching around campus, repeatedly calling out his name, looking around until he noticed a figure lying down in the distance on top of the grassy hill. He walked towards the dark figure, calling out his name once again but still received no response.
When he finally stood beside him, he realized that the other was sleeping. He squatted down and poked his head.
"What are you doing?" The other only shifted slightly, sleeping soundly on the ground.
Kyuhyun sighed as he made himself comfortable on the ground while shifting the sleeping Henry so that he was sleeping on his lap instead. It was then that Kyuhyun noticed the small notebook on his chest and the pen that was lay slacked in his right hand. Puzzled, he reached for the book and gently pried it from his left hand, turning to its first page.
He blinked, peering closely at it. Every page he flipped through, front and back, were filled with tally marks.
He looked back at Henry, lowering his eyes when the other shifted slightly again, sighing in his sleep. Henry opened his eyes as he moved this time, sleepy eyes startled to see Kyuhyun holding the notebook.
He gave a proud, yet tired smile as he reached for the notebook. "...I counted most of them..." His drowsy voice trailed off as his eyes fluttered shut, head lulling back on his lap, too exhausted to stay awake.
He slept comfortably, this time, head cradled gently in Kyuhyun's arm, as he held the open notebook tightly to his chest once again. Kyuhyun closed his eyes as he held the smaller man closer against him. He couldn't believe this stubborn person actually went and tried his hand at the impossible task he gave.
In a quiet voice he murmured. "You fool."
He chuckled as he glanced at each scribbled mark. His gaze visibly softened, noting that even if it was an almost; even if he doubted that he was close as he claimed; in Kyuhyun's eyes, it was close enough.
And that was good enough for him.

A/N: I'm obsessed with stars lately, to the point that it's kind of alarming. This is the end of August's ILC ^^ There were some difficulties and OTPs and a first try one, thinking it'll start again... Not sure. But hoping this time we can actually make the deadline @.@ There'll also be some brand new couples we haven't yet written and a familiar OTP I enjoy ^^ And it seems lately a lot more people are enjoying too o.o
I apologize also if this entry ends up weird and block like or filled with spaces in between... Lj's recent update is becoming a hassle -.-;
