Every so often she'd look at him and catch a glimpse of the beautiful young man she'd fallen for under the softening muscles, the moustache and the new clothes. Sometimes he'd say something sharp or funny, and she could recall that exciting feeling from their early days, when Jack had seemed like a well-mannered handsome boy, but with an edge that meant she'd get to be bad with him. That had been thrilling. But more and more, he was silent and retreated into drink. A few times, he'd shocked her by mentioning his own death, but she told herself they were far too young for that -- and besides, the older generation would go first anyway. Thank you for reading and commenting! I enjoyed your MO!Jack story (both endings -- think I still owe you a comment on that). Jack is leaving TX with next to nothing but his life and though he'll be bummed for awhile, unexpected turns will give him a better outlook. I'm hoping it's not too gnarly for my readers, as it involves a non-j/E pairing -- I just really started feeling that he deserves a break from the miserable situation w/Ennis! Lisa

Thank you re: my story. And are you kind of laughing at yourself a bit like me? I mean if anyone would have told me I would write a MO!Jack story way back when I would have told them they were nuts. But hey, carry forth with your non J/E pairing. I fully expected to be flamed hard but instead folks have been really, really nice. Some even want to know more about Vince, which totally cracked me up since all I could think was "he's the OC who cares about him!?!" Maybe readers are "ready" for other things. God knows Jack has been through the wringer both in the original story and in fanfiction. I know I was sick to death of watching Jack be some punching bag in fic after fic. The guy deserves a lot more than a break, the guy deserves a decent life.

Anyway, I look forward to your next chapter.

Hi Grace,
Yes, I find it quite strange that I'm drawn to write an MO fic -- after all, while the fandom has some really well-written MO stories, IMO, I suffered over most of them upon first reading them. But this plot bunny got stuck in my head, and I wanted to challenge myself w/a longer story. It definitely has to do with growing tired of seeing Jack get bashed in fic after fic -- him getting it on with another guy can't possibly be worse than the canon ending, can it? -- plus the length of time since the movie came out. I think w/the passage of time, some of us have grown readier to deal with other possible outcomes for Jack besides dying. There's so much going on in this fandom, why shouldn't there be room for those stories too...

I was wracking my brain tonight trying to remember the name of this story and your LJ name. Remembered I really liked the first two chapters and had had hopes it would update again soon. All I could recall was that your name had something to do with LA. Glad I finally figured it out.

I see you were working on chapter 3 at the start of the year. Any ETA for it?

Hi, thanks for reading and commenting! Status of ch. 3 is that it's pretty much done -- I'm just looking for a chance to do a last edit with sufficient brain cells working (RL too hectic sort of thing). I'm very excited to see how people respond to new developments...
